Hi group members,
I am looking for volunteers to give 2 seminars next semester. Please send me
your candidacy (with the topic that you would like to talk about) by the end
of the next week so I can make a decision on which 2 I will nominate :)

Subject: 2009/10 Grad student-PostDoc seminar series
To: aspuru(a)chemistry.harvard.edu
Cc: anna(a)chemistry.harvard.edu
Dear Prof Aspuru-Guzik,
Last fall was the inaugural semester of the CCB weekly student/postdoc
seminar series. During the lunch hour of each Friday throughout the
academic year, two students or postdocs from the department gave 25-minute
talks describing their research to their peers. With the help and
participation of 29 out of 30 CCB and affiliated labs, the series was a
great success and received favorable reviews in student surveys. Among the
series’ benefits were increased interaction among students and valuable
practice in preparing and giving presentations to a general scientific
audience.
As the organizers of the seminar series, we are now beginning to plan for
the upcoming 2009-10 academic year. Key to the series’ success, of course,
is securing a variety of student and postdoctoral speakers from diverse labs
and areas of interest. We would greatly appreciate your assistance in
recruiting such speakers. Specifically, we ask that you recommend two
trainees from your laboratory to give talks during the year – one each for
the fall and spring semesters. You may do so by replying to this email or
by returning the form that has been distributed to your mailbox. Your
response by August 5, 2009, would be particularly helpful to us in planning
the series. Please also let us know within this time frame if you would
prefer for us to approach your students directly about participating in the
seminars. Finally, please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions
or suggestions for improvement regarding the series. Thank you in advance
for your assistance and support!
Best regards,

*Journal of Physical Chemistry* is the go–to publication for authors.
Authors choose *Journal of Physical Chemistry* because they gain important
advantages:
*Worldwide distribution of research*
The journals of the ACS are the most cited in chemistry and the related
sciences. With an unparalleled reputation for excellence and broad
accessibility by researchers at leading institutions worldwide, *Journal of
Physical Chemistry* has the broad readership you want for your important
research findings.
*Editors are leading scientists in their respective fields*
Unlike journal Editors at some publishers, *Journal of Physical
Chemistry*Editors are active scientists and distinguished leaders in
their respective
areas of research. That means your submission will be handled by an expert
who can give your paper the care and attention it deserves.
*No mandatory charges for pages, color illustrations, or cover art*
Physical chemistry journals from most other publishers apply author charges
that can add up to significant sums. *Journal of Physical Chemistry* has no
mandatory author charges for pages, color illustrations, or cover art.
*Rapid publication of your paper to the web*
*Journal of Physical Chemistry *offers faster times for submission to
acceptance and to web publication than most competitive journals. With the
launch of *Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters*, authors of letters will
gain an even faster time to publication — estimated at 6–8 weeks from
submission to web publication.

Dear Group:
I recently found out that there will be a Q-Chem Workshop on August 13 on
Washington, D.C. It will include talks by Martin Head-Gordon, Dr. Jing Kong,
Dr. Bernard Brooks and there will also be tutorials for the diverse and most
recent applications that Q-Chem has developed.
It used to cost money to register, but now it is free.
See you tomorrow,
Roberto
Some of you might care enough to sit in once or twice:
* Mathematics 264. Introduction to the Dynamics of Large Quantum Systems -
(New Course) <http://www.courses.fas.harvard.edu/43739>*
Catalog Number: 43739
* Antti Knowles *
* Half course (fall term). M., W., F., at 2. EXAM GROUP: 7*
Possible topics: the N-body Schrodinger equation, self adjointness of
Schrodinger operators, path integrals, coherent states, limiting dynamics
and nonlinear Schrodinger equations.
Dear group,Tomorrow from 2-3pm we have Drew Ringsmuth who is visiting our
lab until this Friday. If you have not met him, don't be shy and talk to
him. The title of his presentation: "Towards high efficiency solar energy
harvesting technologies: Dependence of photosynthetic efficiency on
thylakoid membrane structure in the green alga, Chlamydomonas reinhardtii".
The room where we will meet is still to be announced.
On Thursday from 2-3pm we have Beatrice's presentation. This will be a first
practice before she presents before the REU program. We got the Division
Room (M102) for this one.
Cheers,

Dear group,
Recently, I have been swamped with complicated appointment requests by many
of you. About a year ago, I had sent you the actual procedure for making an
appointment and making life easier for all of us, which is using *Google
Calendar* and requesting the appointment by inviting *
aspuru.assistant(a)gmail.com* Then either Anna or Sarah will either accept the
invitation or move it to another time. Please follow that procedure. If not,
I can easily spend up to half an hour a day looking at the calendar and
trying to figure out when to meet you. Things get quite acute when I am in
travel and have limited connectivity and have to deal with 3-4 appointment
requests in which neither the Google Calendar method is used, or
aspuru.asistant is not copied.
I am exploring a new tool called Timebridge that might be the solution we
all need, but I have to look into it more.
If you have questions, ask a peer first, and if not Sarah or Anna on how to
do all this.
Thank you for helping me speed up the appointment process,
Alan
