Heyo,
I think Ian is still on vacay, so here's my abstract. See you soon (3:30). -Nicolas
"Choosing Exciton Transfer Pathways using Light Pulses."
In the design of nanoscopic systems, a challenging but important goal is to control the rate and direction of energy transfer. If one can control energy pathways simply by changing the character of the incoming light, there are immediate applications in bioimaging as well as improved strategies for advancing our fundamental understanding of microscopic energy transfer. In this talk, I will present a very simple idea for controlling excitonic transfer by utilizing higher excited states. The required math is rudimentary, with this first version of the concept not even requiring the consideration of most quantum mechanical effects. I will discuss how to overcome the main roadblocks to an experimental implementation, and elaborate on the design precision that would be required. See y'all there.
