Title: New regimes of superradiance in a symmetrically pumped BEC
Abstract: Superradiance is the collective scattering of light from a group of particles. Bose Einstein condensates are particularly well-suited to study superradiance in the form of collective Rayleigh scattering due to their long coherence times. We have realized new regimes of superradiance when a BEC is pumped by two noninterfering counterpropagating beams. For small Rayleigh scattering rates, there is suppression of superradiance, while for large Rayleigh scattering rates a new phase, similar to a supersolid, is energetically favored. I will discuss our experimental observations together with the theoretical prediction of a supersolid in this system.
