Hi everyone,

At the GPC meeting today, it was noted that our group has not yet submitted our participants for the CCB research talk series.  These are semi-informal 20 min talks given to a mixed chemistry audience.  Last year I described quantum information dynamics with an example of people sending YouTube links via Facebook.  Semion also gave a more serious seminar about SERS.

If you are interested in participating this year, please contact Alan ASAP so he can get our lab in the rotation of speakers.

Thanks,

Leslie

Hi group members,

I am looking for volunteers to give 2 seminars next semester. Please send me your candidacy (with the topic that you would like to talk about) by the end of the next week so I can make a decision on which 2 I will nominate :)

Dear Prof Aspuru-Guzik,

Last fall was the inaugural semester of the CCB weekly student/postdoc seminar series.  During the lunch hour of each Friday throughout the academic year, two students or postdocs from the department gave 25-minute talks describing their research to their peers.  With the help and participation of 29 out of 30 CCB and affiliated labs, the series was a great success and received favorable reviews in student surveys.  Among the series’ benefits were increased interaction among students and valuable practice in preparing and giving presentations to a general scientific audience.

As the organizers of the seminar series, we are now beginning to plan for the upcoming 2009-10 academic year.  Key to the series’ success, of course, is securing a variety of student and postdoctoral speakers from diverse labs and areas of interest.  We would greatly appreciate your assistance in recruiting such speakers.  Specifically, we ask that you recommend two trainees from your laboratory to give talks during the year – one each for the fall and spring semesters.  You may do so by replying to this email or by returning the form that has been distributed to your mailbox.  Your response by August 5, 2009, would be particularly helpful to us in planning the series.  Please also let us know within this time frame if you would prefer for us to approach your students directly about participating in the seminars.  Finally, please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or suggestions for improvement regarding the series.  Thank you in advance for your assistance and support!

Best regards,
