Greetings from the Younger Chemists Committee!

Please check out the updated YCC website. Several key items are available:

• YCC roadmap for Boston meeting
• 2010 CIBA young scientist award winners
• Special column for ACS Presidents to deliver their personal messages to younger chemists
• Leadership Development Workshop attendees’ column

Don’t forget to stop by YCC programs at the 2010 National Meeting in Boston! YCC is co-hosting the Joint Subcommittee on Diversity Reception (Monday, Aug. 23, 6:30—8:00 pm Room 162 A/B, Boston Convention and Exhibition Center) and the Graduate Student Postdoc Reception (Monday, Aug. 23, 7:00—8:00 pm 3rd floor Ballroom foyer, Boston Convention and Exhibition Center).

The YCC has Awards for Younger Chemists!

Each year, the YCC organizes a Leadership Development Workshop that is geared toward younger chemists and is held in conjunction with the ACS Annual Leaders' Conference as part of the ACS Leadership Development system. Fifteen Younger Chemist Leadership Development Awards for younger ACS members (under 35 years of age) are awarded annually.  The Younger Chemist Leadership Development Award helps young chemists develop into highly skilled leaders in the Society and in their chosen profession. Applications for the 2011 Younger Chemist Leadership Development Award will be accepted August 26th through October 1st, 2010.

The ACS Younger Chemists Committee (YCC) and the CIBA Foundation are proud to support the CIBA/YCC Young Scientist Travel Award. This travel award provides funding for young and early-career chemists to travel to and participate in an ACS national or regional meeting. The travel award is intended for young scientists (under 35) who currently have a post-doctoral appointment OR are within the first seven (7) years of their professional career. CIBA/YCC Young Scientist Travel Awards are awarded twice a year but the number of awards granted yearly will vary subject to available funding. Applications to support travel to a spring ACS national or regional meeting will be accepted September 1st through October 31st, 2010.

Application information for the CIBA/YCC Young Scientist Travel Award and the 2011 Young Chemist Leadership Development Award will be available at http://ycc.sites.acs.org/starting Sunday, August 22nd, 2010.

As always, please feel free to forward this email on to others. Thanks!

Sincerely,

Mick Hurrey, Chair
