Dear all,
I hope that you’re having wonderful weekends! I know that this is a very busy time of the semester and that several of you have conflicts with tomorrow’s meeting time. However, I would still love to check about how your courses are going. In lieu of tomorrow’s group meeting, please do one of the following:
Schedule a short check-in meeting <https://calendly.com/wyatt_hurt/30-min-meeting?back=1> with me.
Send me an email with an update about how your course is going. In your email, please share your plan for collecting midterm feedback from students, how exams are going (if applicable), how TF management is going (if applicable), and any other relevant updates/questions/things I can help with.
In addition, I have two important updates:
Midterm TF/PSL Survey: The department is collecting feedback <https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfyl8MaKBSTTkMU_BdcpM4_8Mb0DOypxqK…> from TFs and PSLs about their experiences teaching this semester. We hope that Head TFs and PSL Coordinators will also take a moment to complete this survey! Feedback will be read by Josh and me, and then anonymized versions will be shared with department staff, course instructors, Head TFs and PSL Coordinators (if applicable).
Fall 2024 PSL/TF Recruitment: We are currently recruiting undergraduate TFs and PSLs for the following Fall 2024 courses: LPSA, Chem 10, Chem 17, Chem 30, and Chem 160. Students can apply for one or multiple positions using the CCB TF/PSL Common Application <https://utp.chemistry.harvard.edu/apply/> (deadline: Sun, March 10). I’ll be sending out recruitment emails tomorrow, but if you know of any undergrads who you think would be great in these roles, please encourage them to apply!
Thanks, all!
My best,
Wyatt

Dear all,
Just a heads up that Canvas is currently down university-wide. Hopefully it will be back soon — you can check the HUIT status page <https://status.huit.harvard.edu/> for updates.
My best,

Dear all,
There are two transactions on George’s department card which we do not have receipts for. If you made these purchases, send George (cc’d) the receipts, course name, and attendee names as soon as possible:
1/25/2024: TST TATTE BAKERY $44.60
2/02/2024: TST FELIPES TAQUERIA $38.55
As a reminder, here is information about the OUE’s Instructional Meeting Fund:
The Office of Undergraduate Education (OUE) provides meals for up to 15 TF meetings each semester. The spending limit is $15/person/meeting. Click here <https://oue.fas.harvard.edu/instructional-lunch-fund> for more info.
To purchase the meal, get the department card from George O’Shea in Mallinckrodt Room B22. He is typically there weekdays from 10 am to 5 pm; ring the doorbell when you arrive. You should return the card as soon as you’re done making the purchase. Then, email him (oshea(a)fas.harvard.edu <mailto:oshea@fas.harvard.edu>) a receipt and list of meeting attendees, specifying that it is billed to the OUE Instructional Meeting Fund.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions.
My best,
Wyatt

Dear all,
Thanks for kicking us off with a great meeting earlier today! It sounds like all of your courses are off to a great start, thanks to your efforts :)
See here for the recording <https://harvard.hosted.panopto.com/Panopto/Pages/Viewer.aspx?id=cce4770b-3f…> and the meeting notes <https://docs.google.com/document/d/1CAvdg5kdKTgyGJZUbI4_KxNGjzy4YoaL5DkRyBd…>.
Several of you mentioned having issues accessing the Disability Access Office’s AIM tool <https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__sierra.accessiblelearn…>. If you’re having problems, here are some troubleshooting steps:
Make sure your head course instructor has emailed dao(a)fas.harvard.edu to request that you have access to the tool.
Once the DAO confirms you have access, click “faculty login” in the top right corner of the DAO website <https://dao.fas.harvard.edu/>. (The link I gave you in the course startup checklist might be incorrect; my apologies!)
If you still can’t access the faculty portal, please email dao(a)fas.harvard.edu to explain the issue and cc me.
Don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions — I’m always happy to help!
My best,
Wyatt

Dear all,
I hope that you are enjoying the last week of winter break, and are excited for the start of classes next week! I’ve really enjoyed meeting with each of you over the past two weeks. — your teaching teams and students are lucky to be working with you. Please see below for a few updates about the Course Administration Working Group:
(1) Bi-Weekly Meetings: Thanks for providing your availability! By far the most popular time was Mondays at noon. We’ll meet every other Monday from 12:00 PM - 12:30 PM on Zoom <https://harvard.zoom.us/j/99887173359?pwd=SGh2UVQ4K1R5eXh6RkRZRytJVDd2UT09>, starting Mon, Jan 29. I just sent you a calendar invite with full details. If you can’t make this time, please let me know.
(2) Email List: This list includes the following people:
Undergrad Education Team members: Gregg Tucci, Lu Wang, George O’Shea, Wyatt Hurt
Head TFs and PSL Coordinators for large courses (PS11, Chem 20, Chem 27, Chem 40, Chem 166, Chem 170)
TFs for smaller courses (Chem 154, Chem 161, Chem 171, Chem 245, Chem 255, Chem 301)
Please always feel free to email the list (ccb-course-admin(a)lists.fas.harvard.edu <mailto:ccb-course-admin@lists.fas.harvard.edu>) with questions or to share resources. The work of running courses is much easier when we collaborate as a team :)
(3) Placeholder Sections: If applicable, try to move all students out of your course’s placeholder by the end of this week. Continue to monitor the placeholder section until the end of the Open Add/Drop Period (Mon, January 29). After January 29, students will no longer be able to change their own section; only TFs can change section enrollment using the my.Harvard sectioning tool <https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Q6aVtbDcWQkEgDMBombn6V1SDyGLU-MUk98sSCI…>.
(4) Section Rooms are posted in the my.Harvard course catalog. It’s possible (though unlikely) that rooms might change. We’ll send you an email if that happens.
(5) Printing: As discussed in more detail in the startup checklist I shared with your individual courses, there is a copier/scanner that you can use in Science Center Room 210c (pick up a key from George in Mallinckrodt Room B22). Alternatively, you can use Flashprint. There are two possible delivery locations you can provide in your instructions to Flashprint:
Science Center Room 210c (secure location; Flashprint has a key)
Counter outside Pfizer Lecture Hall (see picture below; there is a sign that says “Flashprint Deliveries"). Note that this is not a secure location, so shouldn’t be used for exams or other sensitive materials.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions as you kick off the semester.
My best,
Wyatt
