“40 Years after Andrei Sakharov’s Reflections on Progress,
Peaceful Coexistence and Intellectual Freedom: Russia Yesterday,
Today and Tomorrow”
The conference will bring together participants from the U.S., Russia,
and Europe to discuss reactions to Sakharov’s essays Reflections on
Progress, Peaceful Coexistence and Intellectual Freedom (1968), The
Inevitability of Perestroika (1988), and the continued relevance
of Sakharov’s humanist vision. The conference will also address the
nuclear issues he was concerned with and is conceived as a step to
encourage constructive dialogue at a time when the administrations of
both Russia and the U.S. are in the process of change.
