*The Nanovic Institute for European Studies at the
University of Notre
Dame is pleased to announce a new $10,000 book prize, the Laura Shannon
Prize in Contemporary European Studies.* Publishers may nominate up to
three (3) books; authors may also self-nominate. The prize carries a
$10,000 award for "the best book in European studies that transcends a
focus on any one country, state, or people to stimulate new ways of
thinking about contemporary Europe as a whole." It rotates between the
Humanities and History & Social Sciences. We will soon be announcing the
first winner of the Humanities cycle, and we are now accepting
nominations for the first prize in History or Social Sciences, for books
published in 2008 or 2009*. The deadline for submissions is January 15,
2010. *
