Dear colleagues,
Harvard has seen a tremendous surge in activity centered on the
intersection of environmental change and human health. We – the Planetary
Health Alliance, the Harvard University Center for the Environment, the
Harvard Global Health Institute, the Center for Health and the Global
Environment, and the departments of Environmental Health, Nutrition, and
Global Health and Population at Harvard School of Public Health – are
thrilled to announce that we are expanding our efforts to better integrate
the Harvard communities passionate about issues of health and environmental
change, with the goal of generating increased interdisciplinary
collaboration and attention to these topics and to making it as easy as
possible for members of our community to learn about exciting events and
opportunities.
As a first step, we have created a new listserv, planetaryhealth(a)lists.fas.
harvard.edu, to better connect faculty and students across Harvard
interested in these topics. We envision this helping to facilitate new
collaborations between departments, institutes, research groups, student
organizations, and others from across the university in the emerging field
of planetary health, which focuses on the multidimensional impacts of
global environmental change on human health. Please use this listserv to
stay informed on relevant events and opportunities. To subscribe, please
complete the form on this page

.
As part of this cross-university effort, we will also be organizing events
for the Harvard community, including an upcoming spring series focused on
“Solutions in Planetary Health” that will highlight novel solutions by
communities, cities, companies, NGOs and other institutions that improve
the health of communities by promoting better stewardship of natural
ecosystems. The Global Health Initiative will continue hosting its monthly
“Climate Change & Health” seminar series. We welcome your suggestions and
involvement in bringing to light other exciting cross-campus opportunities,
including student initiatives, journal clubs, workshops, and other research
and policy convenings.
We encourage you to send this announcement to your colleagues and other
individuals who may be interested in engaging in events and collaboration
around planetary health. We welcome any of your feedback and suggestions
for ways to better integrate and grow a cohesive community at Harvard
committed to improving human health in the face of environmental change.
Sincerely,
