FYI!
The first is a temporary position that begins January 1, 2016. The teaching load consists of two courses in winter term and two courses in spring term. We hope to attract a candidate who an teach Intro to Soc along with sex and gender, race and ethnicity, and social movements. Other substantive areas will be considered as well.
The second is a tenure-track position in sociological theory beginning September 1, 2016. In addition to sociological theory, the successful candidate will be required to teach Introduction to Sociology and an array of courses in their areas of expertise. Because we are a small department, we hope to attract candidates who can fill gaps in our curriculum.

Subject: Job opportunity -- applied demography
Dear undergraduate/graduate coordinators and advisors:
Please consider sharing the following job announcement with interested students or recent graduates. This job was recently posted on the ASA Job Bank, but I've also emailed this announcement directly to a number of departments in order to reach as wide an audience as possible before the June 12 deadline.
I'm happy to follow up with any questions by personal email or the unit email (below).
Thanks for the consideration-
Sincerely,
Ethan

We're looking for researchers to join our team of applied demographers with the State of California Department of Finance.
If you're interested in population growth, poverty, birth trends, aging, crunching data, and building visualizations to investigate and communicate your insights on these subjects, then I'd encourage you to consider sending in an application. We're recruiting from across the spectrum of experience, from newly-minted BA to recent PhD. More important than your credentials is your drive to produce excellent social science.
Our work frequently branches across agencies to inform budget and policy decisions. There's a lot of room to be creative here and rewards for taking initiative. We have great datasets and a lot less red tape than you'd expect. We are eager to bring in people with new ideas and to rethink the way that we present our results in print, on the web, and for mobile.
We're an hour from the SF Bay, 90 minutes from wine country, and two hours from the Sierras. Rents are reasonable in the Sacramento area and there's a lot to do in the city and environs. This is a full time job with excellent work/life balance: use it as a springboard while building your skills, or stay and make a career.
Interested? The application is online at http://www.dof.ca.gov/career_opportunities/current/view.php<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__www.dof.ca.gov_career-5…>
("Research Analyst I/II"). Further details about eligibility and the application process are available there. The recruitment is open until June 12. We're happy to address any questions about the jobs by email at ficalpop(a)dofca.gov<mailto:ficalpop@dofca.gov>.
Sincerely,
Ethan Sharygin
