Please forward to interested parties: McCloskey's talk may move to 2pm
because MIT is trying to avoid a conflict with Duanmu's.

Dear students, acceptance rate is high for this conference if your
paper is relevant to the conference themes, I encourage you to submit!
This is where I met
Beste Can who was one of the main organizers of WAFL 2, so feel free to
ask her about what a great conference it is. I have been asked to
encourage
submissions from this years' organizers.

Dear All, if you are interested in presenting your work at a VERY
informal semantics workshop, with people from MIT, UMass, Uconn, and
Yale, to be held
at UConn, just let tamina(a)mit.edu know. And, if you want a ride there,
she is coordinating that, too. It's a great opportunity to
learn/present about
semantics in the greater new england area. [I'd go, too, but I'll be
going to NWAV (http://www.nyu.edu/gsas/dept/lingu/events/nwav34/)
instead.].

Dear All, There is a free movie at Harvard on Sunday. But I also wanted
to let you know that some non-linguist friends and I are planning to
rent
a school bus and go to Mt. Monadnock (a nice mountain in New
Hampshire). If there is sufficient interest from the students here we
will be able
to rent a school bus and it will be around $25-30 for each person,
including transportation, barbecue, and outdoor beverages. So please
let me know
by tomorrow sometime if you're interested and we can go for a fun
outing together and make it happen.

Dear All,
This message is from Asaf Bachrach of MIT, who is organizing a Number
Reading Group,
which will include occasional participation by (among others) Susan
Carey, Gennaro Chierchia,
and Danny Fox, and a number of graduate students working on the
representation of numerical
knowledge. It looks fun! Let me know if you have any questions.
-----------------------
Dear all,
You are all invited to the first meeting this fall of a new
interdisciplinary
reading group on the topic of number. We intend to discuss ongoing
research and
recent papers in neurocognitive psychology, cognitive development,
semantics/pragmatics, morphology, syntax and psycholinguistics. The
group will
be meeting bi-weekly with the location alternating between Harvard and
MIT. Our
first meeting will take place on Thursday the 29th of september (5:30
PM). The
exact location TBA. If you are interested to participate but cannot
make it on
that date please let me know as we will take some time on the first
meeting to
determine the best meeting time for future reading group meetings.
Mathieu Le Corre from Harvard psychology will be our first speaker. He
will
discuss his recent research investigating the development of the
mapping
between numerals and analog magnitudes. In short, "acquisition of the
semantics
of number". A draft of his paper will be made available shortly.
