Subject: Raith User Meeting - fall 2003
Greetings,
you are invited to attend the first Raith User Meeting in the USA. Please
extend this invitation to all users of the Raith system at your facility.
User Meetings are held annually at Raith Headquarters in Dortmund Germany,
and now will be held in the USA as well. The host for this meeting is
Stanford Nanofabrication Facility. The meeting will give you an opportunity
to share your experiences with other Raith150 and Raith50 users. The meeting
is scheduled for Monday-Tuesday September 29-30 at Stanford University.
Sessions will run from 9 am until 5-6 pm both days. Raith personnel will be
present from the factory in Dortmund, Germany to field questions and lead
discussions about the Raith software platform. In addition, a number of
application-oriented talks have already been planned:
* Hendrik Bluhm, Stanford. Curved Features with Single Pixel Lines.
* Onur Kilic, Stanford. Displacement-sensitive photonic crystal structures
based on guided resonance in photonic crystal slabs.
* Luigi Scaccabarozzi, Stanford. AlGaAs waveguides and micro-cavities for
non-linear optics.
* Charles D Schaper, Stanford. Pattern Transfer of Metallic Thin Film
Nanostructures by Water-Soluble Polymer Templates.
* James W. Conway, Stanford. Electron Beam Lithography, a critical enabler
towards the integration of Photonic Device Systems.
* Fred Williamson, Univ of Minnesota. SU-8 as an ebeam resist: thin and
thick (grey-scale) applications.
The SNF laboratory is located in the CIS building on the Stanford campus.
The following link provides travel information to SNF.

There is a link on this page to a list of area hotels/motels. We are
recommending that those traveling to the Users Meeting stay at the SLAC
Guest House. The location is very near, and we can then use the campus bus
service (Stanford Marguerite Shuttle
http://transportation.stanford.edu/alt_transportation/AlternateTransportatio
n.shtml) The Marguerite Shuttle is convenient and would alleviate potential
parking congestion near the CIS building. The Marguerite Shuttle provides
service between CIS, the SLAC Guest House, and Palo Alto station, which is a
connection point to the CalTrain. (CalTrain is a commuter rail service that
has shuttle connections to San Francisco International Airport and San Jose
International Airport. If you intend on arriving from the airport on public
transportation check schedules as service may be limited on Sunday
evenings.)
The SLAC Guest House is not available to the general public. Affiliation
with either SLAC or Stanford University is required. SNF has agreed to be
our sponsor. You will find the rate for a single room is ~$80, there are no
additional Government rates. The following link takes you to the SLAC Guest
House rates and reservations page:
http://www.stanford.edu/dept/hds/SLAC/reservations.html When making
reservations please follow the 1-2-3 directions below:
1) Select "Stanford Affiliated Individuals", then continue with the
reservation process. When entering personal information (name, form of
credit, etc.) there will be a "Comments" field.
2) Please enter the following information in the Comments field:
Visiting Researcher
Faculty Sponsor: Yoshio Nishi, Director Stanford Nanofabrication Facility
Reason for Visit: Attending SNF-Raith User Meeting; confirm usage by
contacting access(a)snf.stanford.edu or (650)725-3664.
3) After completing the on-line reservation send an email note to
"access(a)snf.stanford.edu" to inform SNF of your plans to stay at the guest
house and to attend the SNF-Raith User Meeting.
If you are interested in attending the meeting please contact Joe Klingfus
(jk(a)raithusa.com) or Michael Kahl (kahl(a)raith.de). We can still accommodate
a number of additional presentations if you are interested in sharing your
work with others. Plan for an informal setting, perhaps 20 minutes in
length, with 5 minutes after for discussion/questions. If attending (and/or
presenting) we need to have confirmation of your attendance BEFORE Monday 15
September.
Hope to hear from you soon, Joe.
