The Harvard Square Homeless Shelter and Youth2Youth Harvard Square are
looking for substitute volunteers *for all our shifts throughout Spring
Break*. We have a running spreadsheet
<https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1xbHTa7HUpu4CKgP24RamZB_rZqhEyADzGW9…>
where
all are free to sign up. Experienced staff members will be on every shift
to help out with any questions, but you can find more information about
serving in the HSHS volunteer handbook <http://tiny.cc/HSHSHandbook> or the Y2Y
Volunteer Handbook
<https://docs.google.com/document/d/14aipRhfW2kr4xqelHFzEMRlSBfZILP0VbU2-KkJ…>
.
*Shift details:*
- *Breakfast Shift* [6:45-9:00 am] [7:30 — 10:00 am on Saturday]:
Volunteers help prepare breakfast, help guests be ready to leave the
Shelter by 8:00AM, and then clean up the Shelter.
- *Dinner Shift* [6:45-9:15 pm]: Volunteers prepare and serve dinner to
the guests, clean up afterward, and then help the guests with anything they
might need.
- *Evening Shift *[9:00-11:15 pm]: Volunteers start preparing plates of
food for homeless non-guests who come to the Shelter for a hot meal and
help the guests get settled in for the night.
- *Overnight Shift* [11:00 pm-9:00 am] [11:00 pm-9:30 am on Saturday]:
Many of us agree this is the most rewarding shift at the shelter. Four
volunteers and two supervisors sleep in shifts so that someone is always
awake to answer guests' questions and help them with whatever they might
need. In the morning, overnight volunteers stay to help prepare breakfast
and clean up the shelter.
HSHS also sends out last-minute substitute requests every so often - if
you'd want to be added to our substitute volunteer list please fill out this
form <https://forms.gle/8voC2TJWtNi4bBzh8>. For any questions, reach out to
hshs.volunteer(a)gmail.com. Thanks for helping us continue to fulfill our
mission!

Hey, hosting a club social tomorrow from 6-7. Shouldn’t take up too much
space. Thanks.--

Hi Cronks,
HOC calls for your votes! Please help us get money so we can take people outside!

> What's good HOC,
>
> Thanks to the incredible commitment and hard work of some of our leaders, the Harvard Outing Club has qualified as a finalist in Zipcar's Students with Drive funding program! Go vote for us here! <https://www.zipcar.com/swd> It takes five seconds, and thousands of dollars in funding are at stake.
>
> HOC exists to provide accessible and inclusive outdoors adventures to members of the Harvard community regardless of experience level and financial means through our trips and our financial aid and gear borrowing systems. These programs have always been difficult to cover, especially as gas, car rental, and gear costs have risen over the past few years.
>
> It is impossible for us to overstate how much Zipcar's donation would mean to us. With up to $7,000 at stake — enough for us to shore up our financial aid system and cut trip costs across the board for years to come — simply taking five seconds to vote here <https://www.zipcar.com/swd> before March 31 will help HOC provide accessible outdoors experiences to countless Harvard students (and possibly you too!)
>
> Thank you so, so much for your support!

> "It would be no small advantage if every college were thus located at the base of a mountain, as good at least as one well-endowed professorship. It were as well to be educated in the shadow of a mountain as in more classical shades. Some will remember, no doubt, not only that they went to the college, but that they went to the mountain."
