"Dionysos' party. The Dionysiac festivals in Attica in the Classical Period"
Every year people of Attica participated in a number of religious
festivals organized by public authorities. In the Classical Period
(5th - 4th c. BCE), four of these festivals were dedicated to
Dionysos, the god of wine and theatre. Such celebrations were the
Anthesteria, the Lenaia, the City Dionysia and the Rural Dionysia,
which included parades, theatrical competitions, wine drinking and
animal sacrifices, among other things.
Sponsored by The Greek Institute and the Real Colegio Complutense.
