"Postdoc Seminar in Innovative Teaching: Let’s vote for war! Role play in
the Athenian Assembly"
The aim of this activity is to know how democracy worked in Athens from
firsthand. The attendants will participate in a role play in the Athenian
Assembly, where they will have to decide whether they attack or not
Mantinea, a real episode that took place in 427 BCE. In order to do that,
first I will provide a brief description about the functioning of the
different mechanisms of the political system of Athens. After that, the
attendants will be divided into groups according to the social status and
wealth of the people they represent. This will determine their priorities
regarding the decision they will have to take.
Teaching methods have evolved throughout last decades. In order to learn
the different possibilities that Innovative Teaching offers, this seminar
will explore how each field can provide ideas that can be applied in other
areas. In this way, both participants and assistants will improve their
knowledge concerning to how to teach and how to create a better environment
in the class, in which students play a more dynamic role. These activities
will be held mainly by predoc and postdoc fellows of RCC.
