Susanne Gänsicke is a Senior Conservator and the Head of Antiquities Conservation at the
J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles.
Double reed pipes, known as auloi, were popular musical instruments in the ancient
Mediterranean. In 1921, archaeologists exploring the necropolis of Meroë (northern
Sudan)—as part of the Harvard University-Boston Museum of Fine Arts Expedition—found a
large collection of auloi in the pyramid of Nubian Queen Amanishakheto. Susanne Gänsicke
will discuss the discovery’s importance and what it reveals about the connections between
Nubia and the Mediterranean world as well as the significance of far-reaching musical
traditions. She will also share recent efforts to conserve and reconstruct these ancient
musical instruments.
Presented by the Harvard Museum of the Ancient Near East and the Harvard Museums of
Science & Culture

2021 Greek Box Office Hit and Award-Winning Film "Man of God" - Pre-US
Theatrical Release Exclusive Harvard University Screening and Q&A
About this event
"Man of God" Boston Premiere and pre-US theatrical release exclusive Harvard
University screening followed by a Q&A with writer/director Yelena Popovic. Limited
seating. This event is free and open to the public.
"Man of God" is the highest grossing film of the year in Greece and stars Aris
Servetalis (#1 Greek actor), Russian superstar Alexander Petrov (#1 Russian actor), and
Mickey Rourke (in a smaller role but extremely powerful and meaningful, at his best).
Two-time French Cesard Award winner, Zbigniew Preisner has composed the music with a
special vocal performance by Golden Globe winner Lisa Gerrard. The film was shot in
English for an international audience.
'Exiled unjustly, convicted without trial, slandered without cause. "Man of
God" depicts the trials and tribulations of Saint Nektarios of Aegina, as he bears
the unjust hatred of his enemies while preaching the Word of God.'
The film won the Audience Award in competition at the Moscow International Film Festival,
the Audience Award at the Los Angeles Greek Film Festival, the Best International Film
Award at the Siena International Film Festival, the Grand Prize in Faith Jury Award at the
Religion Today Film Festival in Trento, Italy and several awards at the Great Lakes
Christian Film Festival including Best of Fest, Audience Choice, Best International
Feature, and Best Supporting Actor for Mickey Rourke. The film recently screened in
competition at the Phoenix Film Festival and at The Peachtree Village International Film
Festival in Georgia, Atlanta.
