Call for Papers: The Journal of Islam in the World, Volume 1
The Journal of Islam in the World announces the
scheduled publication of Volume 1, August 2007.
The Journal of Islam in the World is a new
biannual publication, affiliated with the
department of Near Eastern Languages and
Civilizations and the Middle East Center of the University of Pennsylvania.
We will consider work by undergraduate and
graduate students in any discipline. This
inaugural issue will not be organized
thematically, and so all works relevant to the
broad subject of " Islam in the World" will be
considered. We extend particular invitation for
works addressing unpredictable subject matter,
and to authors employing innovative
methodologies and approaches. Papers will be
considered on the quality of research, depth of
inquiry, creativity, and clarity. Selected works
will be published bianually online; a "best of"
compilation will appear in print annually.
The following types of materials, among others, are encouraged:
1.) Original academic research on Islam in the world.
2.) Relevant work presented in nontraditional
formats photo-essays, artworks, informal essays, etc.
3.) Reviews of recently published relevant materials
The deadline for submissions is May 1st. Please
e-mail work to
<mailto:islamintheworld@gmail.com>islamintheworld@gmail.com,
and include in the body of the e-mail the
author's name, mailing address (current and
permanent), email address, telephone number,
college or university name, and submission
title. If it cannot be submitted electronically,
please contact us by e-mail to arrange other means of transmission.
