Telescope:
----------
- One pointing schedule
- One non-fatal MCE errors
- Load leveler fan came on 3 times during the last schedule. We had a
cold spell of <-100F. When that happens, they need to switch to the
electric boiler, because the fuel gets to viscous for the pumps to work.
The electric boiler does not seem to be very well regulated. When it
warms up and we don't switch back to the furnace asap, it will get too hot.
Folks here are generally are not really on top of things. I had to raise
an alarm for the low temperature when we hit <-100F and again when
things got too warm. Good thing I installed all these sensors and tied
them into our radio pager :-)
We'll go through the same scenario again in the next few days. Let's see
if they do any better this time
Weather
--------
- Few days of cold and clear wx, followed by a warmer period with
overcast skies.
Cryogenics:
-----------
* Tracking spreadsheet at
http://bicep.rc.fas.harvard.edu/bicep2/south_pole_helium_usage/Summer_2011_…
* Kathleen's Cryo Sitrep:
LHe:
• Approximately 5000 liters of useable LHe remain in the Wessington dewars.
• Approximately 250 liters of LHe were delivered to BICEP2.
• Based on a historical consumption rate of 35.7 liters/day, LHe
supplies are expected to be exhausted by January 2013
GHe:
• Out of 16 storage tanks for gaseous helium: 6 tanks are at 17.2 MPa
(2500 psi), two tanks are at 13.8 MPa (2000 psi), one tank is at 10.3
MPa (1500 psi), one tanks is at 5.5 MPa (800 psi), one tank is at 2.0
MPa (300psi), two tanks are at 1.4 MPa (200 psi), two tanks are at 1.0
MPa (150 psi), and one tank is at 0 MPa (0 psi).
• Vent GHe from the LHe transfer was compressed into the storage tanks.
LN2:
• The liquid nitrogen plant tuned on 2 September 2012 and turner off 4
September 2012
• Approximately 400 liters of LN2 are currently stockpiled on station.
Analysis/software/computers:
