Jon, thanks for this report and the statement of plan for the week.
And the congratulations to you and those at Pole on all the progress and
hard work so far.
Obviously we are in critical crunch time with BICEP2's last chance to
take data coming to an end this week. We're pushing to get the green
light that we've met BICEP2's goals for systematic uncertainties with
all the final calibration measurements on our list.
There's been lots of email traffic on the FTS data, and confirming
systematic uncertainty there appears to be the long pole though the data
looks promising. Jon and Grant are taking the lead on that analysis,
hopefully with as much on-site help as needed from Roger and others
(Kirit, Immanuel?), and feedback from us.
But there is also:
- transfer functions [ Justus (/ Jeff?) to confirm old results are OK]
- final thermal control PID test [ Jon (/ Darren?) to confirm final
results OK ]
Keck apples-to-apples [ Sarah + ? to confirm results are OK]
MCE related:
- Full tuning suite
- SQUID Settling times
- Noise (superfast script) with the mirror on.
Optics related:
- dP/dT (original here: 20091222_dP_dT_Al/)
- Forebaffle on/off (original here: 20110727_ufb_load/)
PT/RF etc related:
- simple knock test
Those whose names are listed--we'll be looking to you for a green light
to warm up BICEP2 very soon now, so where there is any ambiguity in what
standard of uncertainty your results must meet, and let's try to address
on the telecon.

Hi All,
There has been a lot of activity at BICEP2! First and foremost, we're now off the
mount! Although the process was slow and nerve-wrecking, it went off without a hitch. We
spent some time getting everything up and running in the lab and then installed the FTS.
This was a fairly lengthy process as the FTS required quite a bit of work to align but we
got it done and have been cranking away at taking spectra for consistency checks and
hopefully archival results. We've been furiously analyzing the data as it comes in
and there will be many postings to come in the next day or so. In between FTS
measurements, Sarah has been doing apples to apples comparison tests including squid
tunings and noise schedules. Everyone down here is working very hard and we're all
excitedly sprinting towards the finish!
It's worth noting that there were several mislabeled cables which significantly
slowed down getting BICEP2 working in the lab. For future/current experiments, please
label everything and re-label things that have been changed or swapped out!
My previous email had the target warm-up date on monday the 17th. Obviously, we've
slipped a few days but we expect to be warm within the week.
Sadly, Chin Lin and Colin left this week but Immanuel, Kirit, and Roger have joined us to
replace the giant holes in our hearts. Hien is on the PAX in list for tomorrow (?).
Cryo:
- nothing to report.
Computers:
- rebooted bicep32 since we had trouble communicating with the MCE when we came off the
mount. Reboot solved it.
Plan for the week:
- we will continue analyzing FTS data so we can get the thumbs up for warming. We will
also take more data as necessary (in line with the plan from other email threads).
- one quick thermal PID test to be done after FTS
- final apples to apples tests (Sarah can elaborate)
-Jon
