Dear all,
We have finally settled on the policies and created a form that you can use for applying
for the QSE professional development fund. This fund is intended for providing you access
to professional development opportunities early in your graduate career before you join a
research group. Listed below are the policies for this fund. I want to specifically point
out that since this wasn’t put in place in your G1 year, you can apply for this fund
starting now until the end of your G2 spring semester. Please don’t hesitate to reach out
to me if you have any further questions, especially if you have any questions/concerns
about the eligibility of any particular activity for the fund.
Policies:
1. This fund is intended for students in the QSE PhD program. QSE students will be
required to apply for this fund by submitting this application
form<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdxnyjPvfsJJXgErmd0Ovh3lRD…nk>.
2. Professional development activities include (but are not limited to) topical or
intensive summer schools/courses/workshops, conferences/research talks, seminars in the
areas of the student’s lab rotations, conferences/seminars in fields adjacent to the
student’s primary research topic.
3. This fund is not intended to be used for presenting research done in the student’s
thesis advisor’s group at a conference. Rare exceptions might be considered if the student
did the work before they identified the PI as their thesis advisor.
4. Students may apply to this fund at any time in their G1 year (i.e. beginning of
their first Fall term until the start of their second Fall term).
5. Each student can only successfully apply to the fund once.
6. The amount of the fund distributed to each student would be limited to $1000 for
domestic opportunities and $2000 for international opportunities. Student's will be
responsible for providing appropriate receipts (such as registration confirmations, travel
confirmations, etc) for processing reimbursements.
Best,
Nishant
