Title: “From Many-Body Physics to Quantum Information Processing with Rydberg Atom Arrays”
Abstract:
Individually trapped neutral atoms offer a promising platform for the controlled, bottom-up engineering of quantum many-body systems. This talk aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the physics of Rydberg atom arrays, explore the quantum many-body phenomena observable within these systems, and outline various strategies for leveraging these systems in quantum information processing tasks. I will delve into the exploration of many-body phenomena both in and out of equilibrium. Next, I will illustrate the connection between these phenomena and quantum optimization and computation. I will also introduce several proposals for the design of universal quantum processors with Rydberg atom arrays.

Dear all,
We have finally settled on the policies and created a form that you can use for applying for the QSE professional development fund. This fund is intended for providing you access to professional development opportunities early in your graduate career before you join a research group. Listed below are the policies for this fund. I want to specifically point out that since this wasn’t put in place in your G1 year, you can apply for this fund starting now until the end of your G2 spring semester. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you have any further questions, especially if you have any questions/concerns about the eligibility of any particular activity for the fund.
Policies:
1. This fund is intended for students in the QSE PhD program. QSE students will be required to apply for this fund by submitting this application form<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdxnyjPvfsJJXgErmd0Ovh3lRD3A3sSY5n…>.
2. Professional development activities include (but are not limited to) topical or intensive summer schools/courses/workshops, conferences/research talks, seminars in the areas of the student’s lab rotations, conferences/seminars in fields adjacent to the student’s primary research topic.
3. This fund is not intended to be used for presenting research done in the student’s thesis advisor’s group at a conference. Rare exceptions might be considered if the student did the work before they identified the PI as their thesis advisor.
4. Students may apply to this fund at any time in their G1 year (i.e. beginning of their first Fall term until the start of their second Fall term).
5. Each student can only successfully apply to the fund once.
6. The amount of the fund distributed to each student would be limited to $1000 for domestic opportunities and $2000 for international opportunities. Student's will be responsible for providing appropriate receipts (such as registration confirmations, travel confirmations, etc) for processing reimbursements.
Best,
Nishant

Call for Generation Q G2 Fellowship Nominations
Deadline: April 28, 2023
The Harvard Quantum Initiative invites nominations for the Generation Q Graduate Fellowship.
These fellowships are made available through generous support from the AWS Generation Q Fund at the Harvard Quantum Initiative. HQI will award up to 16 one-semester fellowships to G2s conducting quantum science and engineering research in FY24.
Eligibility and Fellowship Details
* Nominees must be rising second-year PhD students (current G1s) pursuing quantum science and engineering and in good standing in Ph.D. programs in QSE, SEAS, Physics, and/or CCB.
* The Fellowship will provide five months of G2 stipend and tuition and fees for one semester. Typical duration of the fellowship would be either August 1-December 31, 2023, or January 1-May 31, 2024
Nomination Instructions
* Students must be nominated by an advisor/principal mentor, and a second faculty member must also provide a recommendation letter. Please send the nominating letter and recommendation letter from a second faculty member to sdakoulas(a)fas.harvard.edu<mailto:sdakoulas@fas.harvard.edu> by Friday, April 28.
* Once the nomination has been received, HQI will contact the student to request their unofficial transcripts, publication list, and CV for review by the selection committee. These materials will be due to sdakoulas(a)fas.harvard.edu<mailto:sdakoulas@fas.harvard.edu> by Friday, May 5.
* Decisions will be announced in late May 2023
