*The Building Interfaith Community and Leadership Seminar**
*The Pluralism Project at Harvard University and the Andover Newton
Theological School
Greater Boston, MA
June 1-14, 2012*
Application deadline April 2, 2012*
The Pluralism Project at Harvard University and Andover Newton Theological
School are pleased to announce that they are currently accepting
applications for an intensive two-week seminar that will take place *June
1-14, 2012* in Greater Boston. Through master classes, site visits to local
religious communities and analyzing case studies developed by the Pluralism
Project, seminar participants will explore the intersection of religious
and civic life and reflect on their role as religious leaders in the public
square. Sikh, Buddhist, Christian, Muslim, Hindu and Jewish community
leaders will introduce participants to their houses of worship and
religious practices as we explore some of the challenges and opportunities
that interfaith community-building involves.
The seminar is primarily intended for seminarians and divinity school
students; a select group of lay leaders within religious,
atheist/secular/humanist, and/or interfaith organizations are also sought
for participation in this seminar. These leaders will have the opportunity
to share with students and colleagues some of the current challenges their
communities face in America’s multi-religious reality and the ways in which
they, as individuals and as a community, are engaging with this diversity.
*The Building Interfaith Community and Leadership Seminar* is offered
jointly between Andover Newton Theological School and The Pluralism Project
at Harvard University. The seminar is generously funded by the E. Rhodes
and Leona B. Carpenter Foundation. The instructors for the course will be
Dr. Jennifer Peace, of Andover Newton Theological School, and Dr. Diana
Eck, of the Pluralism Project and Harvard University.
Applicants should be
· currently enrolled in a participating seminary or theological
school within the Boston Theological Institute (BTI)
· able to demonstrate their ongoing commitment to promoting religious
literacy and fostering inter-religious engagement
· available for and willing to attend the full length of the course
(absences for religious observances are permitted)
More information is available
here<http://www.pluralism.org/pages/applications/2012/interfaith_community_leade…>.

*Parliament Webinar Series: **What Is My Responsibility for Peace in the
World? Five Steps towards a Peace Process*
Council for a Parliament of the World’s Religions
Tuesday, March 13, 2012
10-11AM U.S. Central Time
This webinar with Alexandra Asseily offers participants the opportunity to
develop a greater awareness of our own responsibility for peace in our
lives and to acquire more skills to apply around us.
The webinar will address our own responsibility for war and peace and the
role forgiveness plays in releasing cycles of violence. Through personal
reflection, we can experience those aspects of ourselves that are not fully
contributing to peace and harmony and how to release and transform them
through forgiveness. By doing so, we can also unblock the gifts we have
inherited, in order to use them and appreciate them more fully in our lives.

*FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: The Pluralism Project at Harvard University Launches
*
*“America’s Interfaith Infrastructure: An Emerging Landscape”*
* *
*Website Seeks to Document and Resource the Interfaith Movement in America*
(Cambridge, MA) – The Pluralism Project at Harvard University is pleased to
announce the launch of America’s Interfaith Infrastructure: An Emerging
Landscape <http://www.pluralism.org/interfaith>, a website documenting and
resourcing the interfaith movement in the United States. Dr. Diana Eck, a
professor at Harvard University and director of the Pluralism Project
explains, “While interfaith organizations play a vital role in cities and
towns across America, their critical contributions to our multireligious
society are often overlooked.”
The Pluralism Project <http://www.pluralism.org> has been researching
religious diversity in the United States for the past two decades;
however, America’s
Interfaith Infrastructure: An Emerging
Landscape<http://www.pluralism.org/interfaith>represents an in-depth
pilot study of interfaith efforts in twenty cities
across the U.S. Since 9/11, interfaith initiatives on the national scene
have gained prominence and are increasingly covered in major media outlets
for their outstanding work, yet few have chronicled interfaith efforts at
the grassroots level. This pilot project documents the richly diverse
interfaith movement as it continues to develop in the United States.
Initiatives include: an innovative community video
project<http://www.pluralism.org/interfaith/omaha/practices/project_interfaith>in
Omaha,
Nebraska <http://www.pluralism.org/interfaith/omaha>; a thriving women’s
interfaith network<http://www.pluralism.org/interfaith/syracuse/practices/women_transcending_b…>in
Syracuse,
New York <http://www.pluralism.org/interfaithbeta/syracuse>; and a
long-standing, replicable tradition of a festival of
faiths<http://www.pluralism.org/interfaith/louisville/practices/festival_of_faiths>in
Louisville,
Kentucky <http://www.pluralism.org/interfaith/louisville>.
Dr. Diana Eck explains the importance of this new resource as a starting
point for scholars, activists, students, and citizens:
Ten years after 9/11, the need for inter-religious understanding and
cooperation has never been greater. Interfaith organizations create
innovative programs to engage and educate – they also offer a
counter-narrative amidst the rising rhetoric of division. People of all
ages and beliefs from across the country are collaborating in the arts,
social services, youth leadership programs, and civic initiatives at
unprecedented levels. New forms of dialogue
are emerging as we speak.
The Pluralism Project invites activists, students, educators, and community
members to share their own story of the interfaith movement by submitting a
short audio or written piece that may be included in the storytelling
portal<http://www.pluralism.org/interfaith/share>of America’s
Interfaith Infrastructure: An Emerging
Landscape<http://www.pluralism.org/interfaith>
.
The site, www.pluralism.org/interfaith, includes promising practices,
leadership profiles, case studies, and multimedia features; a summary
report<http://www.pluralism.org/interfaith/report>of the findings from
this pilot study is also available.
This pilot project was made possible by a grant from the Arthur Vining
Davis Foundations. For more information, please contact Whittney Barth,
assistant director of the Pluralism Project, at
617-496-2481 or staff(a)pluralism.org.
*The Pluralism Project at Harvard University seeks to help Americans engage
with the realities of religious diversity through research, outreach, and
the active dissemination of resources.*
