Accepting Applications from Clergy, Lay Leaders, and/or Interfaith
Organizers *
The Pluralism Project at Harvard University and Andover Newton Theological
Seminary are currently accepting applications from clergy, lay leaders,
and/or interfaith organizers for an intensive two-week seminar that will
take place *June 1-14, 2012* in Greater Boston. Through master classes,
site visits to local religious communities and analyzing case studies
developed by the Pluralism Project, seminar participants will explore the
intersection of religious and civic life and reflect on their role as
religious leaders in the public square. Sikh, Buddhist, Christian, Muslim,
Hindu and Jewish community leaders will introduce participants to their
houses of worship and religious practices as we explore some of the
challenges and opportunities that interfaith community-building involves.
The seminar is primarily intended for seminarians and divinity school
students; however, *a select group of clergy, lay leaders, and interfaith
organizers are also sought for participation.* These leaders will have the
opportunity to share with students and colleagues some of the current
challenges their communities face in America’s multi-religious reality and
the ways in which they, as individuals and as a community, are engaging
with this diversity.
*The Building Interfaith **Community and Leadership Seminar* is offered
jointly between Andover-Newton Theological School and The Pluralism Project
at Harvard University. The seminar is generously funded by the E. Rhodes
and Leona B. Carpenter Foundation. The instructors for the course will be

Eck, of the Pluralism Project and Harvard University.

*The Stranger at Our Gates: Jewish Perspectives on Exclusion & Inclusion in
Contemporary America*
Monday, April 23, 6pm
The Jewish Theological Seminary, New York, NY
Globalization has led to increased mobility and collaboration. However,
with the economic downturn, globalization has also increased disparities in
access to public services—such as health care and education—among segments
of the U.S. population. Cases being heard this spring by the U.S. Supreme
Court on immigration and on the health-care system reflect the timely and
critical nature of this issue. The panel will address the following
questions: *What are some of the moral and ethical principles underlying
policy decisions and public debate in this area? What principles inform, or
should inform, the criteria for membership and access in society? How does
Judaism speak to the obligations of a modern democratic society toward
those living within it?*
Admission is free, but reservations are required. For more information,
including RSVP, please see the JTS website here<http://www.jtsa.edu/stranger%20>
