We're excited to have our first 20th c. US History Workshop session of the
semester tomorrow, Tuesday, September 27. We will be discussing a chapter
of Jake Anbinder's dissertation, attached for your review (please do not
circulate).
We're looking forward to reconvening for the first time in person since
2020, and we will be serving light food either before or after the workshop.
There will also be an option for remote access on Zoom.
*Tuesday, September 27, 6-7:30 pm*
Basement Seminar Room (B21), Robinson Hall

Paper: “Power to the Neighborhoods: Defending Community and Redefining
Liberalism in Decentralized New York.” This is Chapter 5 of Jake's
dissertation, *Cities of Amber: Antigrowth Politics and the Making of
Modern Liberalism, 1950–2008*. The project is a history of the post-sixties
evolution of the Democratic Party told through the story of movements
against urban growth that emerged in the late twentieth-century U.S.
We're still looking for a few presenters, so if you have a piece of writing
to workshop, please reach out to vgonzalezmaltes(a)g.harvard.edu and
kalyass(a)g.harvard.edu to get on the schedule.
See you soon!
Warm regards,
Ken & Victoria

Dear all,
Quick reminder that we have our weekly Happy Hour at 6pm today right
outside of Robinson Hall on the steps! We had a great turnout last week
(15+); let’s keep it up!
We also have a message about HGSA elections:
The History Graduate Students Association (HGSA) will be hosting annual
elections on Sunday, September 25, 2022, for two representatives from G1-G6
years.
The HGSA is an organization representing all History graduate students at
Harvard. By virtue of being a History grad student, you are a member of the
HGSA! Every year we elect representatives to form the HGSA Committee, which
serves the interests of graduate students.
This year we plan to organize and a host a series of events and programming
such as:
- Weekly Happy Hours on Fridays
- Monthly Coffee with a Professor (beginning in October)
- A week-long book sale during the first week of November
- Panels for G1s, G2s, and G3s
- An invited speaker in the fall and the spring
We encourage all graduate students, remote or on-campus, who are interested
in working with the association to submit a one brief paragraph introducing
yourself and why you want to run for representative.
Send in a brief paragraph (a few sentences)
by the end of Tuesday, Sept. 20
Best,
HGSA
