Hi everyone,
My name is Catey Boyle (she/they), I'm a G6 in History, and a social
sciences steward for the Harvard Graduate Student Union (HGSU). I'm looking
forward to connecting with fellow student workers across the social
sciences in the year ahead. I'm also reaching out to let folks know that
HGSU Social Sciences will be hosting a happy hour TODAY Monday September 25
at 5.30PM. We are moving to Robinson Hall’s Great Space (the main lobby of
the History Department building) on account of the inclement weather. We'll
have pizza, drinks, and games -- bring a friend and come hang out with your
fellow social scientists!
Please help us decide how many pizzas to order by filling out this quick
form
(

And feel free to reach out about any union questions.
Thanks, and hope to see you this evening!
All best,
Catey

Hi all,
Those above their G2 year may well recall the difficulties of making our
field lists.
To make the process of building field lists easier for this year’s G2
cohort and below, HGSA is asking all willing graduate students to send us
their field lists.
Lists will be uploaded to the HGSA website and made available to all graduate
students in history and beyond. You can send all four of your field lists or
just one. Whatever you’re willing to contribute is very much appreciated!
If you choose to send a list, *please do the following before sending*:
- Remove your name and any other personal information from the document
- Specify your fields’ temporal, geographic, and/or thematic focus.
Please send lists to: noahsecondo(a)gmail.com
Thank you,
HGSA Leadership
Hi all,
As we begin the new semester, I write to request the names and contact
information of anyone running a history workshop this fall.
HGSA would like to begin coordinating with workshop conveners to assist in
advertising and coordinating information flow for the benefit of graduate
students in the department and beyond.
Please send contact information, including the name of the workshop and the
primary student and faculty conveners to kablwilkerson(a)g.harvard.edu
Sincerely,
Kabl Wilkerson
Dear all,
If you’re currently researching 20th century U.S. history, we invite you to
join us for our monthly workshop sessions, held in person with a hybrid
option. We will also serve food and drinks at our meetings! This graduate
student workshop is led by Professors Lisa McGirr and Liz Cohen and
co-organized by two grad students, Annie Boniface and Hazim Hardeman.
The workshop will meet primarily on Wednesday's from 5-6:30. Our first
meeting will be on Wednesday, September 27 from 4:30-6 (tentative location:
Robison 22). While this workshop is designed for students conducting
research (G3 and above), G1s and G2s are welcome to attend. You do not have
to be presenting work this year to participate in the workshop. Our goal is
to foster a community of scholarship among graduate students working in
this field.
*I**f you're interested in attending and are not already on our email list,
you can **sign up here <https://forms.gle/aRvi176KXc1dekcw6>**.* We'd be
delighted to welcome and connect with you.
Call for Papers: We are looking for graduate students to share their
written work in the Fall semester. If you have a piece of writing that you
are looking to workshop, please write to us with a short proposal (a
paragraph or two). This semester we are accepting submissions on a rolling
basis, but i*f you are interested in presenting in September or October,
please write to us soon**. *
We encourage students at different stages of their research to present
their work. This can include a dissertation prospectus, a conference paper,
a chapter or a shorter work-in-progress paper trying out an argument. We
encourage submissions of works in progress, including if they are not yet
very polished: we hope the workshop can be a supportive space for students
to develop ideas and receive feedback for research that is still in its
early stages. The paper presented at the workshop should not exceed article
length (35-40 pages).
If you are unsure of when you would like to present, or if you are thinking
of presenting later in the semester or in the year, please write to us
anyway to signal your interest.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Annie Boniface
(*anneboniface(a)g.harvard.edu
<anneboniface(a)g.harvard.edu>)* or Hazim Hardeman (
hazimhardeman(a)g.harvard.edu).
We look forward to seeing you soon!
Best wishes,
Hazim Hardeman & Annie Boniface
