Greetings all,
We write with an important message for you all to consider.
We have all seen the violence engulfing the people of Palestine, and we
recognize the current efforts by our friends and colleagues to hold the
university accountable for its culpability in these acts of violence – of
*genocide*– against the Palestinian people.
In light of the recent events that have gripped the nation and our campus,
HGSA has decided to initiate a vote for the graduate community in the
History Department to determine whether our organization will sign the
Harvard Divestment Letter.
Vote here: https://forms.gle/e5HgX87KAWjuUn17A.
Please consider casting your vote. *Voting will end on Wednesday, May 1st
at 3:30 pm. *
You can access the full divestment letter here
<http://tinyurl.com/harvarddivestmentletter>.
You may also sign the letter as an individual, which you can do anonymously
if you wish.
Sincerely,
*Harvard Graduate Student Association*

Subject: Final 2023-24 Job Market Event - History Department
To: Bertwell, Dan <bertwell(a)fas.harvard.edu>
Hello All,
I write to invite you to our final job market event for the 2023-24
academic year.
Please also note that the second of the Spring semester job market talks
will take place *on Friday, April 12th at 3:00, over Zoom*. The Zoom
details are below my signature. This talk will focus on administrative
careers at universities and will feature:
- The History Department’s Catalog and Curriculum Coordinator, Claire
Adams <https://history.fas.harvard.edu/people/emily-claire-adams>.
- The Associate Director of Research Initiatives at the Center for
Middle Eastern Studies, Jesse Howell
<https://cmes.fas.harvard.edu/people/jesse-howell>.
This particular job market talk is always a really helpful one. Every year
we have some students who realize that they enjoy working at a university,
but prioritize either a particular geographic location or the work/life
balance of a job that they can fit within a normal schedule, so I’m hoping
that many of you will be able to join us then!
Best,
*Dan Bertwell*

Hi everyone,
I’m reaching out as your union steward with an important update about
benefit funds eligibility and some associated asks.
As you may know, the union administers a series of benefit funds (including
healthcare, dental, an emergency fund, childcare, and more!). In the past
year, Harvard has been trying to limit who is eligible to apply for and
receive these benefits. HGSU has been fighting hard to push back in weekly
negotiations. There was recently a petition distributed regarding this
issue as well.
The petition was presented to Harvard representatives 2 weeks ago. Although
the initial response was encouraging, and there were talks of a compromise,
Harvard ultimately failed to change their position on the issue.
We have reached a critical point in negotiations and organizing. We need to
show Harvard that we’re serious about our benefit funds. We will be having
an EMERGENCY RALLY this Wednesday, April 10th at 12pm in front of John
Harvard Statue. The more people we get out at the rally, the better.
Here are some resources:

As always, feel free to reach out to me with questions.
