*A Thanksgiving Food Packaging Service Project
*Sponsored by the Harvard Interfaith Collaborative
(Harvard Chaplains, Center for the Study of World Religions at the Divinity
School, Pluralism Project, Harvard College Interfaith Council)
Sunday, November 20, 2011
12:00 noon – 4:00 p.m.
Location: Student Organization Center at Hilles (SOCH), adjacent to the
Radcliffe Quadrangle
The event will include facilitated dialogue on what motivates people of
different faiths and philosophical convictions to engage in service work.
Refreshments will be provided. Following the enormous success of this
year’s 9/11 interfaith community service project, where more than 9,110
nutritious meals were packaged for food-insecure children (organized by the
Humanist Chaplaincy), we hope to double that effort by packaging 20,000
meals to distribute during Thanksgiving week through the Kids Care program
at Outreach. http://www.outreachprogram.org
Donations, which go directly to pay for the project’s food package
supplies, may be made on the “ChipIn!” site:

How does one undertake the daunting task of self-realization—and succeed?
To have a map for the inner journey from one who knows the path perfectly is
ever so rare, illumining the most direct path to realization of oneself and
God.
Without such a map, it is easy to lose one's way when faced with sorrow or
obstacles.
M.R. Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (Ral.) was a Sufi saint of all-embracing love and
wisdom who dedicated his life to compassionately serving and teaching
people of all backgrounds, races, and religions. From 1971 to 1986, he
lived in Philadelphia, PA and founded the Bawa Muhaiyaddeen Fellowship,
which has Branches around the world (*www.bmf.org*).
Presenter: Dr. Usha Balamore met Bawa in 1977, learned his native language
of
Tamil, and became a translator of his songs, discourses and books. She is a
well-known Professor of Education specializing in Character Development,
with the goal of inspiring children to “Fall in love with Goodness*.”*

*GIS for Humanists: 2-day workshop at Harvard on December 15-16*
This two-day workshop offers hands on instruction in basic GIS tools and
techniques for Humanists addressing an array of questions for both their
own research interests and class pedagogy. Short research overviews by
Harvard scholars who are using GIS in the Humanities will encourage
discussion on how GIS can enhance and indeed transform research. Pluralism
Project Assistant Director Whittney Barth will be presenting briefly on the
Pluralism Project’s use of GIS maps in research.
Learning at the workshop will be framed around specific tasks and results
as well as the technologies to achieve, document, and analyze those
findings. Instruction will include basic tools and software, GPS devices,
Google Earth marking and measurements, Worldmap, and Introductory ArcGIS.
Registration is limited to 30 participants. No previous GIS experience is
necessary. Learn more and apply online on our *GIS for Humanists page*.
Participation fee is $30.
