*Save the Date, Sunday September 11, 2011: Massachusetts Remembers*
*An invitation to the religious *
*communities of Massachusetts*
To mark the 10th anniversary of 9/11, you are invited to "Massachusetts
Remembers," a large public gathering, including prayers, poems and
performances by the Boston Pops Brass and Boston Children's Chorus, Sunday
September 11, 2011- 3pm at the Hatch Shell.
Houses of worship and religious groups will bring an important component to
this shared public day of remembrance. Delegations from houses of worship
and religious groups are invited to gather at 2:30pm on the Esplanade so
that we can to sit together at a space reserved for us. You are invited to
bring a banner identifying your house of worship. "Massachusetts Remembers"
will provide an opportunity not only to look back but also to look forward,
united by our shared values of security, liberty and justice for all.
A service pavilion will feature local non-profits, charitable organizations
lead by 9/11 family members and ways to rededicate ourselves to retelling
our shared American story of service and sacrifice, healing and wholeness. A
common prayer, interfaith resources, and ways you can participate will be
available shortly online. For more information, please contact

Do you know any mature young people (ages 15-22) who are curious and
passionate about faith, with gifts and energy, who may be exploring an
emerging vocation or who are simply open to learning and building community
in a supportive faith setting and in the city? Spaces are filling fast, so
nominate soon by emailing, calling, or writing a note to the IFYI office
with contact information for teens, and their parent, guardian, or youth
leader. Request information from ifyi(a)coopmet.org to send information to
yourself or a youth.

IFYI is a powerful and transformative experience for teens (ages 15-18), as
well as college and graduate students serving as mentors and staff. Together
we will interpret and embody our own spiritual visions of justice and peace
on the campus of Brandeis University, while living out Dr. Martin Luther
King Jr's "Beloved Community."
This year's theme will be* "Building the World House"*
http://www.coopmet.org/IFYI.html
IFYI has five Core Values: Building Bridges, Engaging Faith, Training
Leaders, Making Peace, and Serving Others. Participants explore and embrace
their own leadership and peacemaking styles, becoming agents of positive
social transformation in their schools, communities, and congregations.
This program offers a dynamic mix of community building, fun social
activities, workshops, service experiences, and learning trips which engage
urban and suburban realities. Youth express their visions of faith, justice,
and peace through visual art, poetry/spoken word, theological reflection,
dance, drama, and film.
All are welcome at IFYI! Youth and staff come from diverse religious
backgrounds and grow more deeply in their own religious traditions through
dialogue and interaction with others. Leadership (currently!) comes from the
Christian, Jewish, Muslim, and Unitarian Universalist faith traditions. Men
and women are housed in separate staffed areas of the school, or if desired
may commute from home. All religious and dietary needs will be accommodated.
Come join us for this eight-day immersion experience, followed by ongoing
opportunities during the academic year for mentoring, retreats, and support
for spiritual, academic, and professional pursuits.
This transformative week for youth leaders from Greater Boston communities
and beyond will culminate in a "Celebration" on Sunday, July 17th. Bring
your congregation and come see what our young people have to say!
No one should EVER not apply or come to IFYI because they cannot afford
it. IFYI applies for grants specifically in order to be able to provide
scholarships for high school participants who cannot afford the full fee.
Therefore, first ask if this program is right for you, and if it excites
you! If so, then we'll make it happen, regardless of how much you (or any
potential participant) can pay. Indeed, only a minority of our participants
contribute the full amount on the sliding scale. Between families and faith
communities, each individual probably pays on average about $200. Often
times, what people pay ranges from $100 to $400. So, COME FIRST, then we'll
work out how much you can afford on the sliding scale up to $750.
