*
*A Seminar Offered Jointly by Andover Newton Theological Seminary and *
*The Pluralism Project at Harvard University*
*June 1-14, 2012*
The Pluralism Project at Harvard University and Andover Newton Theological
Seminary are pleased to announce that they are currently accepting
applications for an intensive two-week seminar that will take place *June
1-14, 2012* in Greater Boston. Through master classes, site visits to local
religious communities and analyzing case studies developed by the Pluralism
Project, seminar participants will explore the intersection of religious
and civic life and reflect on their role as religious leaders in the public
square. Sikh, Buddhist, Christian, Muslim, Hindu and Jewish community
leaders will introduce participants to their houses of worship and
religious practices as we explore some of the challenges and opportunities
that interfaith community-building involves.
The seminar is primarily intended for seminarians and divinity school
students; a select group of lay leaders within religious,
atheist/secular/humanist, and/or interfaith organizations are also sought
for participation in this seminar. These leaders will have the opportunity
to share with students and colleagues some of the current challenges their
communities face in America’s multi-religious reality and the ways in which
they, as individuals and as a community, are engaging with this diversity.
*The Building Interfaith **Community and Leadership Seminar* is offered
jointly between Andover-Newton Theological School and The Pluralism Project
at Harvard University. The seminar is generously funded by the E. Rhodes
and Leona B. Carpenter Foundation. The instructors for the course will be
Dr. Jennifer Peace, of Andover-Newton Theological Seminary, and Dr. Diana
Eck, of the Pluralism Project and Harvard University.
*Applicants should be*
- currently enrolled in a participating seminary or theological school
within the Boston Theological Institute (BTI)
- able to demonstrate their ongoing commitment to promoting religious
literacy and fostering inter-religious engagemen
- available for and willing to attend the full length of the course
(absences
for religious observances are permitted)
To be considered for the seminar, completed applications must be submitted
electronically to staff(a)pluralism.org by 5pm on Monday, February 13th,
