Hi all,
I have been getting a couple of emails about the scheduled visit with the Yale School of Medicine. Unfortunately, the Director of Admissions had a conflict so they had to cancel the November 1st event. They will be coming in the spring.
We hope to see a lot of you at the Harvard Medical School event tonight (6-7:30 Fong Auditorium, Boylston Hall, RSVP required). We will both be there tonight so feel free to come say hello at the end of the event. It will be packed, but we are happy to stay and talk.
Best,
Ellen and Emiko

Dear Applicants,
I hope this finds you well. I know this can be an exciting time or a difficult time in the application cycle. We are here for you if you need help with anything.
1) Acceptances. Some of you have been fortunate enough to receive an acceptance already. Many of those schools will ask you to send in a deposit and/or a written notice that you accept the spot. There are clear "traffic rules" that govern acceptances (traffic rules for applicants<https://students-residents.aamc.org/applying-medical-school/article/applica…>; traffic rules for admissions officers<https://students-residents.aamc.org/applying-medical-school/article/applica…>). As long as you are holding only one acceptance on April 30th, all of the deposits you have paid will be returned, except for the one at the final school that you plan to attend. As you get a first acceptance, you should withdraw from schools where you do not intend to matriculate. Many of you may need and want to hold on to multiple acceptances until you hear about financial aid offers. That is completely appropriate. For many schools, however, you might know that you will attend school A over school B regardless of what the financial aid package looks like and in that case it is appropriate to withdraw from school B once you have been accepted to school A. Your House tutors and OCS premed advisers are both happy to discuss these choices with you.
2) Confirming completeness. All of you should confirm at this point that your applications are complete at all medical schools where you have not been invited for an interview or rejected. Be sure to check spam filters and be sure that you are checking any email accounts that you have given to medical schools.
3) Interviews. Some of you have not received any interview invitations. Some have received one or two. Know that there are still many invitations yet to be given out. Also know that many people receive a few rejections before they receive any interview invitations. At this point, it is worth checking for completeness as listed above. In early November, for those of you with zero or one interview, I would recommend that you send emails to the schools where you have not yet been rejected. In those emails, be gracious and acknowledge that you realize that not all people are granted interviews, but that you would be honored to receive an interview. You can briefly comment on why you are interested in this school and can briefly give some update if you have something you would like to share. If you have zero to one interview by early November, I would also suggest you get in touch with your House premed tutor and with the advisers at OCS.
4) Upcoming events for applicants
Harvard Medical School Visit presented by Dr. Robert Mayer, Faculty Associate Dean for Admissions, Thursday, October 27, 6-7:30pm, Fong Auditorium at Boylston Hall

MCAT REGISTRATION
Registration will open on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 for the January-June 2017 MCAT exam dates. Registration for July-September MCAT exam dates will open in February 2017. The exam dates and registration information can be found at aamc.org<https://students-residents.aamc.org/applying-medical-school/taking-mcat-exa…>.
Here are a few things to keep in mind.
1) You can apply for the Fee Assistance Program now. It is not retroactive so applicants should apply well before registering for the MCAT. The Harvard Financial Aid Office is aware of this program and can assist current students with the application if you have questions.
2) If you believe you qualify for testing accommodations, you can find information about this at aamc.org.<https://students-residents.aamc.org/applying-medical-school/taking-mcat-exa…>
3) Create your AAMC ID ahead of time to make registering for the exam faster and to make it easier to get the date and location you want.
Students and alumni who are planning to apply this June for matriculation in 2018 should plan on taking the test by May of 2017. If you are trying to figure out the best timing for taking the test or have other brief pre-med/pre-health questions, 10-minute office hour appointments are available Tuesday through Friday afternoons. Sign up for these begins on 9 pm the night before the appointment. Sign up instructions are here<http://ocs.fas.harvard.edu/premedical-health-careers-advising>. For more in depth conversations, please feel free to sign up in Crimson Careers for a 30-minute appointment with Emiko Morimoto or Ellen Williams.
