secondary apps, spam, committee letters, interview prep
by Morimoto, Emiko Taira Adachi
Dear Applicants,
1. Secondary applications. We hope this finds you well and that most of you have your secondary applications almost done. If they are piling up, do whatever you can to set aside some time to get them finished quickly. Make sure they are error-free but realize that they are not all going to seem "perfect." Some schools do screen applicants before sending secondary applications and those schools often send those secondary applications a bit later. The policy for secondary applications for each school can be found on MSAR.
1. Spam filters. Please remember to keep checking your spam filters and make sure that you are checking email every day during the interview season. Every year we hear stories of applicants who miss interview invitations that got lost in spam.
1. Committee letters. Please check in your AMCAS to see if your committee letter has been received. If it has not, and you abided by all your House deadlines, please reach out to your House Academic Coordinator.
1. Interview prep. Some of you have received some interview invitations, but most of you have not. The season is long and invitations continue to be extended into February and March. Here are some ways you can prepare.
* All Houses offer mock interview prep and you should avail yourself of these resources. Reach out to your assigned non-resident or resident tutor to arrange a mock interview.
* Go on the OCS website, in the interview section<https://ocs.fas.harvard.edu/interview-stream>, and sign up for Interview Stream using your harvard.edu address. There is a section specifically for medical school interviews.
* Use the resources on the OCS premed website about interviews<https://ocs.fas.harvard.edu/medical-interview>.
* Come to an interview workshop at OCS which will feature preparation for both traditional interviews and MMI. We ask that only current applicants or seniors who will be applying in a future application cycle sign up. Students applying to other health-related schools (e.g., dental and vet) are also welcome and will find the information relevant to interviewing for those schools. Each workshop is limited to 40 participants. All workshops will be held at OCS. PLEASE REGISTER TO ATTEND<https://harvard-csm.symplicity.com/students/index.php>. Here are the dates:
* Wednesday, September 4, 6:30-8pm
* Monday, September 9, 4:30-6pm
* Thursday, September 19, 5:30-7pm
* Friday, September 20, 1-2pm (webinar- no interactive portion, please register using your using your email used to log into Crimson Careers: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/5872869136976645645)
Note: Please only RSVP for one of the in-person workshop- they tend to get completely booked and we do want all applicants to have access to these. However, you are of course welcome to attend one in-person workshop and the webinar, if that would be helpful!
Best,
Emiko & Oona
