If you are applying to medical school in 2021 for matriculation in 2022, please subscribe to the Harvard OCS Medical School Applicant Listserv, by visiting https://lists.fas.harvard.edu/mailman/listinfo/harvardocs-medschool-applica… and signing up using a @college.harvard.edu address, a @post.harvard.edu address, or an @alumni.harvard.edu address.
Dear Applicants,
1. Missing course work. The start of term is a good time (even for alumni) to double check the websites of all the schools on your list and confirm you have met the requirements. Remember that you can still take courses this fall and the upcoming spring if necessary. If you are an alum, it is fine to take additional courses wherever you are in the United States. As a general rule, the majority of schools do not accept online courses (unless that is the only format offered by the specific school), so we do not recommend online courses unless you are certain that the school where you are trying to meet that requirement will accept an online course. (Note- of course schools will accept online coursework from Spring 2020 through Summer 2021 across the board.)
1. Interview prep. This is a reminder that you can prepare for interviews in the following ways.
* All Houses offer mock interview prep and you should avail yourself of these resources.
* Go on the OCS website, in the interview section<https://ocs.fas.harvard.edu/interview-stream>, and sign up for Interview Stream using your Harvard.edu address. There is a section specifically for medical school interviews.
* Use the resources on the OCS premed website about interviews<https://ocs.fas.harvard.edu/medical-interview>.
* If you were unable to attend our Interview Webinar live, you can view the recording webinar here<https://harvard.zoom.us/rec/share/DvszZNpeAmwFm06h9qQzNw1DrecHXt_d5wIAN_pnr…>. We apologize for the technical issues we had with the webinar! As a note, if you would like to view a captioned version of the webinar, please go here<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdjRxAbNMec> (this is the recording from 2020, but the content is the same!) Note: This webinar is for the Harvard Community only. Please do not share links. All webinar recordings: (c) 2020 & 2021 President and Fellows of Harvard College
* The handouts for the webinar are attached to this email.
3) Secondary applications and completeness of application.
This is a good time to make sure your application is complete at all your schools and to dig a bit deeper for any medical schools where you have not received a secondary. For some schools, you need to go on to their website/application portal to access their secondary. For some schools you will have already received an email saying your application is complete or you are able to check on their application portal. For schools where you have not heard yet and can't check online, you can send a brief email just confirming that your application is complete. This is not an update, but rather a simple request for confirmation.
4) MD-PhD interview calendar.
The dates for MD/PhD are on the AAMC.ORG website and can be found here.<https://calendar.google.com/calendar/u/0/embed?src=6juva39u7on1a4jclfrne8i0…> This is especially useful for schools that have a very limited number of days, so that you can try to save interview dates for those schools.
5) Upcoming medical school visits
We will have several virtual medical school visits this fall, and more are being added. If you are applying to these schools, you should definitely make an effort to attend. Here are the ones that have been scheduled thus far. All times listed are ET. As a note, not all of these have been added into Crimson Careers. Please check later next week to get the Zoom links and register.
* Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine, Tuesday, 9/14, 6-7pm<https://harvard.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_5O4Dy2v-SUavvmDouUVTmgc>
* Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons, Wednesday, 9/22, 4-5pm
* Harvard Medical School, Monday, 9/27, 4-5pm
* NYU Grossman School of Medicine, Thursday, 9/30, 4-5pm
* Tufts University School of Medicine, Monday, 10/4, 4-5pm
* Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Monday, 10/25, 4-5pm
Hope all is well! Please reach out with questions and of course, book advising appointments as needed (as a reminder, the max of two applicant appointments only applied to February through June 2021).
Best,
Emiko & Oona
