Joint Effort Premed Competencies Update
The premed
competencies<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__click.…
continue to cover a broad range of professional, science, and thinking and reasoning
competencies. In addition to knowledge of science, it is critical for aspiring physicians
to understand different perspectives, engage in self-reflection, demonstrate humility, and
have a desire to grow and learn. These premed competencies serve as a roadmap for students
as they prepare to succeed in medical school.
Medical school admissions committees will begin using the updated premed competencies in
the 2024-2025 application cycle to evaluate applicants' readiness for medical school
through a holistic review of each application. Additionally, the AAMC has developed the
following resources to support prehealth advisors and
students<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__click.emai…

from 2022.
Registration for all 2024 test dates will open in mid-January and the full testing
calendar (with test dates from March – September) will be available on the PREview website
beginning on Nov. 9. In the January Prehealth Advisor newsletter, we will provide an
update on some important policy changes and the publication date for the 2024 PREview

and prehealth advisors. The PREview exam has also evolved to assess the update
professional competencies and continue to provide prehealth students an opportunity to

exam continues to assess a range of professional competencies, including cultural
awareness, cultural humility, desire for learning and growth, empathy and compassion,
ethical Responsibility to self and others, interpersonal skills, reliability and
