Quick Tips: Using Encyclopedias Need a quick background briefing on a topic area? Look up an entry for it in an encyclopedia. They’re a great resource for reading about the basics of any given topic. And while Wikipedia is a typical first-stop for most college students, consider looking up an encyclopedia through HOLLIS+. Many are available online, and several are topic specific (e.g. The International Encyclopedia of Revolution and Protest or The Food Encyclopedia: Over 800 Ingredients, Tools, Techniques and People), which will help you find the truly relevant information faster. ) "Harvard University" in white text on a black background, Veritas crest Welcome back! For sophomores new to the houses—welcome! And for returning students—welcome back! The Peer Research Fellow (PRF) program is a peer-to-peer library education and research assistance initiative. I will be sending out weekly newsletters with library tips and holding weekly study breaks from 8–9pm on Sunday starting this week. This week's study break will take place in Currier Dining Hall. I am also available for in-person and email research consultations for any project, no matter how big or small! Come for the candy; come for the research help! I look forward to meeting you :) Lisa Study Space of the Week: ** Wasserstein Student Center at Harvard Law School ------------------------------------------------------------ If you want some extra motivation, consider Couches, ottomans, tables for group work, and tall ceilings, all in muted grey tones studying alongside law students in Wasserstein, located in the HLS campus along Massachusetts Avenue. Wasserstein has comfy couches, nooks where you can study with a partner, and even large tables where you can spread out your work! Photo credit:

Quick Tips: Finding Sources Are you stuck in your research? Need to find good, applicable sources quickly? Consider consulting the sources listed in the works cited section of other reputable publications. Hunting down research materials through other works’ bibliographies and references is a great way to find relevant sources quickly. Be sure to use books and articles with varied perspectives (including competing viewpoints and the voices of women and people of color) on the topic so you have a well-balance collection of evidence. If your subject has an international angle, try consulting sources from different countries of origin, or look at sources in other languages if you are multi-lingual. Did You Know...? blue books stacked on top of each other ...that Research Librarians (
http://harvard.us11.list-manage.com/track/click?u=dda0ccd00b6d7270a8c9448f3…
) are here for YOU? Yes, you! Anyone can make an appointment with a research librarian to get advice on how to conduct good research and how to improve search terms and strategies for the future. Research librarians are great resources for writing a senior thesis or tutorial paper! However, you don’t have to be working on a huge semester-long project to ask for help, you don’t even have to be working on a graded project. Research librarians are there to help you find any sources you need to answer any questions you’re asking. Send the librarian an email to schedule an appointment next time you feel stumped by the research process. If you can't figure out which librarian to contact, I would be glad to help! book cover with line drawing of a man and a dog with a space helmet. This science-fiction novel follows the journey of a time-machine repairman, also named Charles Yu, who has been living outside of time in order to avoid parts of his past. However, when he accidentally creates a paradox, Yu must face his fears, and in the process recover his relationship with his estranged father. Equal parts hilarious and poignant, Yu's novel manages to capture the frustrations, obstacles, and love that make up the immigrant experience for Asian-Americans.
