We will write new entries about women athletes and women’s sports, supplement current entries, and begin to address the imbalance. No previous experience writing Wikipedia entries is necessary. Wikipedia experts and research librarians from the Schlesinger Library will be available to help you write and edit your entries. A list of possible subjects, printed reference materials, and online resources will be provided to support the work. New ideas and resources are also welcome. We’ll focus our resources on women athletes, but this edit-a-thon is open to anyone wishing to create or edit entries about women. For additional information about this event, visit

Announcements & Upcoming Events Beyond the Fake News: Tackling the [M/D]isinformation Ecosystem Friday, April 14, 10:00–11:30 AM CGIS South S020, Belfer Case Study Room 2016 was the year we finally woke up to 'fake news', but the term has already become misappropriated and even weaponized. This lecture will consider the whole spectrum of the mis- and dis-information ecosystems, providing practical tips for verifying material sourced from the social web, as well as discussing research from social psychology which demonstrates the need for all of us to develop emotional skepticism. Claire Wardle is the Research Director of First Draft News (

) , a non-profit dedicated to finding solutions to the challenges associated with trust and truth in the digital age. She was previously the Research Director at the Tow Center for Digital Journalism at Columbia Journalism School, head of social media for the UN Refugee Agency and Director of News Services for Storyful. She is one of the world’s experts on user-generated content, and has led two substantial research projects investigating how it is handled by news organizations. She also sits on the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on the Future of Information and Entertainment. This event is free and open to the Harvard community. ------------------------------------------------------------ Houghton Library Book Arts Fellowship Applications due: Friday, March 24 The Houghton Book Arts Fellowship gives students the opportunity to spend ten weeks at Houghton Library pursuing a project related to a book arts topic with guidance from Houghton librarians and curators. Topics could include altered books, artist's books, book binding, book forms, bookmaking, illustration, letterpress, paper-making, print-making, typography, and more! Fellows will also spend time with Pressmaster Ted Ollier at Bow and Arrow Press and with area partners learning the art and craft of printing and book-making, and gains some hands-on experience!
