Dear all,
Yesterday you all received a welcome from Brigitte, but we wanted to follow up with one of our own! Juniors and seniors, we're so glad you're back, and we can't wait to start a new year with you all! Sophomores, welcome to PfoHo -- we really look forward to getting to know you too! We'll be in the dining hall for dinner on Sunday, when meals start up here, so please come up and introduce yourselves. We're easy to spot, as the middle-aged grownups with our rambunctious, soccer-mad eleven year old son, Jamie, in tow. Here <http://pfoho.harvard.edu/people/house-roles/house-masters> also is a link to our bios and pictures…
Sophomores: as you know, Monday evening (starting 5pm) you are all warmly invited to come to a New England clambake dinner we are putting on just for you. It will happen in the Faculty Row courtyard behind the House (we will put signs up to help you find it). Come for amazing food, to meet us and one another, to enjoy live steel band music, and to check out the beach volleyball possibilities!
Everyone: on Tuesday, evening, after your entryway meetings, we hope everyone will come to the Dining Hall for an ice cream bash (giant pyramids of ice cream, with all the trimmings), where we will more officially welcome everyone. At that event, also, tutors and others will make introductions all around, we will tell you about some of the new things that have been going on over the summer (psst! One of them has to do with gym renovations!), and we will highlight a few of the plans we have for the coming year.
See you all very soon, and please don't hesitate to reach out to us directly in the meantime, just to say Hi or if there is any way at all we can help with the settling in.
Anne and John (and Jamie)

Welcome (back) to Pfoho!!
I'm so excited to see everyone, and I'm looking forward to a great year in the house! Our Pfoho DHall opens for dinner on Aug. 30th, and I hope to meet a lot of you there. Currier’s DHall opened today.
In the meantime, please stop by and say hello if you see me around! Remember that you can come talk to me or get in touch any time about anything at all that is on your mind, big or small, academic or personal. I’m here to listen, talk things through, and help you make a plan or connect to College resources. Just catch me when you see me or send me an email at pforzheimerhousedean(a)fas.harvard.edu<mailto:pforzheimerhousedean@fas.harvard.edu> If we haven’t met yet, you can see what I look like here: http://pfoho.harvard.edu/people/brigitte-libby
Also, here are a few important logistical announcements about the beginning of term in the House:
TUTOR-ON-CALL (TOC):
Our official Tutor-On-Call schedule starts tonight, and you’ll see posters go up with the number—the tutor-on-call is someone you can always reach with any issues outside usual business hours or on weekends: just call 617-651-1636.
Other important emergency numbers include:
UHS After Hours: 617-495-5711 and HUPD—Harvard Police: 617-495-1212
ENTRYWAY MEETINGS & ICE CREAM:
There will be entryway meetings on Tuesday 9/1 at 9:00pm, where you will have a chance to read our community safety standards and get to know your new neighbors. Those meetings on Tuesday are mandatory, but they will also be fun-- I promise. Your floor tutors will be getting in touch about those.
Then, after your entryway meetings on Tuesday evening, we'll have a whole house gathering for the Masters' Ice-Cream Bash at the DHall. The tutorial staff will introduce themselves
PARTIES:
It is great that you are all excited to see each other again and also to meet new people in the House! We definitely don’t want to stand in your way. At the same time, we also want to ensure everyone’s safety, especially in these first few days before we have the opening entryway meetings when we go over community rules, standards, and safety procedures. So, please get in touch with me or the tutor-on-call if you were hoping to host more than about 15 people before Tuesday night, and we’ll have a conversation and “register” your party. After Tuesday night, then the usual party registration system will apply—and your entryway tutors will go over that for you!
WEBSITE:
Please check out our wonderful updated website below for a link to our Pfoho calendar and lots of other useful information—and you can start to get to know this year’s tutor team and who plays what roles in the House!

I’m looking forward to seeing you soon!

Brigitte

Dear all,
We can't wait to welcome you all (or welcome you back) to Pfoho very soon. We have been preparing for your arrival, and planning what we hope will be a great year for all of you. We look forward to telling you all about everything when you get here!
For now, though, we are writing to alert you to an upcoming excursion that will be happening very soon after the start of the semester, and for which you will need to sign up now: an authentic deep-sea fishing excursion led by House Pfaculty Pfellow, Matt Desmond. This excursion will be the first in a series of outdoor excursions we will be offering over the course of the year designed to allow you all to experience various New England settings and traditions across the seasons. We are calling the series — of course — Pfoho Pforays!
Now — over to Matt!!
Second Annual Pfoho Deep Sea Pfishing!
[cid:77DC4711-0944-47D8-871D-DF28C2324BCB]
We are heading to Newburyport, MA for some deep-sea fishing!
We have chartered a twenty-person boat for a half-a-day of fishing on the Atlantic Ocean. We’ll be fishing for makeral, haddock, and pollock; if we're lucky, we may catch some bluefish, seabass, or scup. Then we’ll take our catch home and grill out back in Anne and John’s back patio! Transportation to and from Newburyport will be provided by charter bus.
All gear is included. You only need to bring yourselves.
September 5
8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m on the boat
Charter bus departs at 7:30 a.m.
If you are interested, email Matt Desmond (Pfaculty Pfellow) at mdesmond(a)fas.harvard.edu<mailto:mdesmond@fas.harvard.edu>. Sign up by September 1. We only have room for 20 spots. Once names are in, we’ll randomly select the crew, just like they did in the old days.
Cost: $25 to help cover transportation.
Last year, we had a blast! See attached photos for proof!
Best,
Matt
