Come spend an early Thanksgiving feast with us -- minus the turkey, creamed onions, and sweet potatoes with melted marshmallows, and focused on the only good part: PIE!
[cid:image001.png@01D36310.4E901B90]
We will have lots, in multiple flavors: apple, pumpkin, pecan, and more. We will also have vanilla ice cream for you to dress it up with.
So come express your gratitude for PIE by joining us at 9pm tomorrow in cozy Comstock Living, complete with a holiday fire and enough for everyone.

On Saturday, October 21, we are planning a hiking pforay for all of you to Mt Monadnock (a mountain in New Hampshire), so that you all can experience the fall foliage season of New England in all its brilliant colors.
The plan is to leave in the morning by bus at around 8am, arrive in Jaffrey, NH around 10am, and climb to the top (fortified with lots of water, hot chocolate, and trail mix). The climb is roughly two miles, and most people take 90-120 minutes to reach the summit. There is no hurry, and we will naturally separate into smaller groups climbing at a pace that is comfortable for everyone.
Once we have conquered the summit, we will settle down for a picnic lunch, a well-deserved rest and good conversation, all while gazing out at the 360 degree views of New England at the peak of the vibrant fall foliage season. Bring cameras!
The bus will be waiting for us when we climb back down. We expect to be home before 5pm.
If you want to come, you need to sign up on this <https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSempPVC5pscGRWahqdhpmcjD9_WGqc89U_…> form. I will keep the sign-up sheet open for one week – until Sunday October 8 at midnight, and I will send out a reminder email on Friday. We will be able to take close to 50 people, so we expect that everyone who signs up will be able to attend! That said, once we know the numbers of people interested, we will ask you to definitively confirm your participation.
Looking forward to a day of beauty, good fellowship and outdoor adventure!
Anne

Dear Pfoho,
Starting this Saturday, we are proud to introduce a new Pfoho tradition: Saturday afternoon High Tea at Annie’s English Rose Tea Shoppe:
On periodic Saturdays, from 4-5pm, Comstock Living Room will be transformed into a rose-themed, cozy English tea house. There, you will have the chance to sit and be served our rendition of one of Britain’s more civilized traditions: high tea. On the menu: a selection of finger sandwiches (cucumber, salmon and ham), home-made scones slathered with jam and clotted cream (if you have never tried this, you need to), and a selection of home-made small cakes. All this washed down – in a refined way, of course -- with cups of freshly-brewed tea, recently brought over by John personally from England. We may even have some live music tinkling in the background, to further set the mood...
[mage result for clotted cream][mage result for afternoon tea][mage result for afternoon tea]
We plan to lay on some 3-4 high teas each semester. Look for a formal invitation from us for the first one, this coming Saturday, later tonight or tomorrow, with a link to sign up!
As they say in England, there’s always time for a cuppa!
Anne and John

Notes from the Allston Burr Assistant Dean, Monique Roy, pforzheimerhousedean(a)fas.harvard.edu<mailto:pforzheimerhousedean@fas.harvard.edu>:
It's the last week of class and that means it is time for our "Reading Period Reminders"! Please read these carefully! Remember you can always reach me at pforzheimerhousedean(a)fas.harvard.edu<mailto:pforzheimerhousedean@fas.harvard.edu> - and please feel free to come by my office near the mailroom any time just to say hi, vent, or take some candy. If you stop by to catch me but I'm out of the office, just let Heather know you'd like to speak with me, and she'll make that happen.
1. Academic Resources and Stress Management: Make sure to get plenty of sleep, eat well, and balance your studying with other activities; make use of the Pfoho exercise rooms, Spfa, and yoga classes. If you are feeling overwhelmed, please reach out. All the Pfoho tutors are available to provide support and encouragement, and I'm always here for you, too (come by to see me or email me at pforzheimerhousedean(a)fas.harvard.edu<mailto:pforzheimerhousedean@fas.harvard.edu>).
The Bureau of Study Counsel is an excellent resource for both academic and personal advising; call 617-495-2581 to make an appointment with a Bureau staff member.
The Writing Center is available if you are looking for help on term papers: http://writingcenter.fas.harvard.edu<http://writingproject.fas.harvard.edu/pages/resources-students>
2. UHS Urgent Care: If you are facing a crisis or feeling unwell, remember that UHS is open 24/7, and appointments are free and confidential. The 24/7 number for UHS is 617-495-5711. Urgent Care has medical staff and also counselors on call 24/7. Urgent Care is in the Smith Campus Center, 3rd floor. HUPD can give you a ride to urgent care if needed (617-495-1212).
3. Academic Honesty: This is a good time to check in with your instructors about course-specific expectations on source citation, collaboration, and late work. When you are sleep-deprived, feeling pressured, and down to the wire on a deadline, your judgment may not be at its sharpest. If you find yourself pressured, please set up a meeting with me or your tutors to talk through your options. Remember that the penalty for academic dishonesty is always worse than for turning in an imperfect paper or incomplete problem set. The full College policy on plagiarism, collaboration, and dual submission can be viewed here: http://handbook.fas.harvard.edu/book/academic-integrity
4. Backing up your written work: Remember that it's not a question of if your hard drive will crash, but when. There's nothing more frustrating than losing a paper you just put the finishing touches on, and some professors will not accept computer problems as a reason for your missing deadlines, so make sure to back up your work regularly. There are free cloud backups that you can use including Google Drive (https://www.google.com/drive/<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.google.com_drive_&…>) and Dropbox (https://www.dropbox.com/<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.dropbox.com_&d=DwM…>). A good habit is periodically to email yourself a copy of your drafts, to make sure you'll always have a recent edition available if anything happens.
5. Extensions: Extensions up through the last day of exam period (Saturday May 18th this term) can be granted by professors, but any work handed in after midnight on May 18th requires Ad Board approval to be accepted by the professor. If you anticipate needing to petition for an extension beyond the end of exam period, please be in touch with me as soon as possible. While the College does not offer Incompletes, we maybe able to get an extension for a reasonable period of time for extenuating circumstances.
6. Parties: Although parties are not allowed during reading or exam period, you are free to hold small gatherings in your room as long as they do not make noise or bother others. Please be respectful of your neighbors.
WANT TO MEET WITH MONIQUE?
You can check my office hours and sign up for an appointment on my google calendar at http://bit.ly/MR_appointments<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__bit.ly_MR-5Fappointment…>.
If these times don't work for you, just email me and we will set something else up outside those times. Heather will normally be in from 9-5 Mon-Fri - and she will always know where I am or how to reach me.
Best,
- Monique

Honorable mentions go out to Ryan “the Ninja” Feng for his stealthy assassinations; Dylan “Sniper” de Waart for setting a kills record; and Jay “the Sleeper” Judge for joining in last minute, making it to the finals, and almost winning a game single-handed. Many thanks to Anali, Elaine, Keith, and Makinde for helping put the DHall back in order afterwards.
