Notes from the Resident Dean, Brigitte Libby, pforzheimerhousedean(a)fas.harvard.edu<mailto:pforzheimerhousedean@fas.harvard.edu>:
OFFICE HOURS- To sign up for an appointment with Brigitte Libby, please go to http://bit.ly/Pflibby
If you need a time outside of those appointment slots (eg. evenings), please feel free to email Brigitte directly at pforzheimerhousedean(a)fas.harvard.edu<mailto:pforzheimerhousedean@fas.harvard.edu>.
Reading Period Reminders:
As always, feel free to come by my office near the mailroom any time just to say hi, vent, or take some candy!
1. Stress Management: The next couple of weeks can be a significant "crunch time" in your classes. Make sure to get plenty of sleep, eat well, and balance your studying with other activities; make use of the Pfoho exercise rooms, Spfa, and yoga classes to keep your stress levels manageable.
If you are feeling overwhelmed, please don't keep it to yourself! My door is always open (email me at pforzheimerhousedean(a)fas.harvard.edu<mailto:pforzheimerhousedean@fas.harvard.edu>), and the Pfoho tutors are available to provide support and encouragement. The Bureau of Study Counsel is also an excellent resource for both academic and personal advising; call 617.495.2581 to make an appointment with a Bureau staff member. If you are facing a crisis, remember that University Health Services is open 24/7, and appointments are free and confidential. The 24/7 number for UHS is 617-495-5711. Keep in mind, too, that the Writing Center is available if you are looking for help on term papers: http://writingproject.fas.harvard.edu/pages/resources-students
2. Academic Honesty: This is a good time to check in with your instructors about course-specific expectations on source citation, collaboration, and late work. When you are sleep-deprived, feeling pressured, and down to the wire on a deadline, your judgment may not be at its sharpest. If you find yourself pressured, please set up a meeting with me or your tutors to talk through your options. Remember that the penalty for academic dishonesty is always worse than for turning in an imperfect paper or incomplete problem set. The full College policy on plagiarism, collaboration, and dual submission can be viewed here: http://handbook.fas.harvard.edu/book/academic-integrity
3. Backing up your written work: Remember that it's not a question of if your hard drive will crash, but when. There's nothing more frustrating than losing a paper you just put the finishing touches on, and most professors will not accept computer problems as a reason for your missing deadlines, so make sure to back up your work regularly. There are free "cloud" backups such as Dropbox (https://www.dropbox.com/) that you can use. A good habit is to periodically email yourself a copy of your drafts, so you'll always have a recent edition available if anything happens.
4. Parties: Although parties are not allowed during reading or exam period, you are free to hold small (<15 people) gatherings in your room as long as they do not make noise or bother others. Please be respectful of your neighbors.
Good luck with your studying, and please don't hesitate to contact me (pforzheimerhousedean(a)fas.harvard.edu<mailto:pf-abrd@fas.havard.edu>) if you have any questions or concerns.
Very best,
Brigitte

Outside-Pfoho Announcements
BlackCAST and HRDC are proud to collaboratively present A Raisin in the Sun and Clybourne Park, two plays about dreams, community, and race. Raisin tells the story of an African American family in 1959 wishing to move to an all-white suburb. Clybourne's first act shows us the perspective of the couple selling the house to the family in Raisin. In act two, Clybourne skips ahead 50 years to 2009, when a white family wants to buy the house as the surrounding neighborhood is beginning to gentrify. Though these plays were written half a century apart, they are very much in dialogue with each other. Together, they offer a brutally honest portrayal of racial relations in the United States. All evening performances will be followed by talkbacks.
Email clybourneintheex(a)gmail.com<mailto:clybourneintheex@gmail.com> or raisinintheex(a)gmail.com<mailto:raisinintheex@gmail.com> with your name, showtime, and desired number of tickets to reserve yours today! Hey PfoHo!
D-Ball is back this Thursday @ 8pm in the DHall. The rules are as simple as
the game is fun and easy; you can only touch the ball once at a time with
any part of your body and try to get the ball through the hoop at the other
side of the DHall. Once you hear the jock jams coming out of the DHall
speakers, come down and give it a go!
At about 9:30 we'll switch over to Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story so we
can watch Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughan make a fools of themselves. Don't
worry, I promise we won't be dodging any wrenches at DBall or Dodgeball:

Hi Pfoho!
I'm excited to announce a house-wide game of PfAssassins the week we return
from thanksgiving. The game is simple:
- Everyone who signs up receives a target. You must assassinate that
target by touching with your Harvard ID. You must be discreet, because your
target can touch you with an ID to stun you for an hour.
- Running / causing commotion in the dining hall is prohibited. There
are no other rules (and no arbiter to resolve disputes), so use your sense.
- If you are assassinated, you return as a ZOMBIE. You receive a new
target. You can't win last Pfohoser standing, but you can still influence
the outcome and are eligible for kill leader.
- Assassinations must be reported immediately. To make this easier, the
game will run by text message.
- There will be 3 rounds. The game begins on Monday 11/30 at 12:01 am
and ends on Monday 12/7 at 7 pm (or when only one person remains), with
rounds ending on Wednesday and Saturday at 11:59 pm. You must carry out one
assassination each round to stay alive. Last Pfohoser alive wins, with ties
broken by kill count. We will also name a kill leader, who need not be
alive.
To sign up, send a text message to (609) 736-4619 (609-PFOHO-19 if that's
your thing) with "register FULL NAME". You should receive a response within
a couple of seconds.
May the odds be ever in your pfavor!
Pf-love,
Shai Szulanski
