Come spend an early Thanksgiving feast with us -- minus the turkey, creamed onions, and sweet potatoes with melted marshmallows, and focused on the only good part: PIE!
[cid:image001.png@01D36310.4E901B90]
We will have lots, in multiple flavors: apple, pumpkin, pecan, and more. We will also have vanilla ice cream for you to dress it up with.
So come express your gratitude for PIE by joining us at 9pm tomorrow in cozy Comstock Living, complete with a holiday fire and enough for everyone.

On Saturday, October 21, we are planning a hiking pforay for all of you to Mt Monadnock (a mountain in New Hampshire), so that you all can experience the fall foliage season of New England in all its brilliant colors.
The plan is to leave in the morning by bus at around 8am, arrive in Jaffrey, NH around 10am, and climb to the top (fortified with lots of water, hot chocolate, and trail mix). The climb is roughly two miles, and most people take 90-120 minutes to reach the summit. There is no hurry, and we will naturally separate into smaller groups climbing at a pace that is comfortable for everyone.
Once we have conquered the summit, we will settle down for a picnic lunch, a well-deserved rest and good conversation, all while gazing out at the 360 degree views of New England at the peak of the vibrant fall foliage season. Bring cameras!
The bus will be waiting for us when we climb back down. We expect to be home before 5pm.
If you want to come, you need to sign up on this <https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSempPVC5pscGRWahqdhpmcjD9_WGqc89U_…> form. I will keep the sign-up sheet open for one week – until Sunday October 8 at midnight, and I will send out a reminder email on Friday. We will be able to take close to 50 people, so we expect that everyone who signs up will be able to attend! That said, once we know the numbers of people interested, we will ask you to definitively confirm your participation.
Looking forward to a day of beauty, good fellowship and outdoor adventure!
Anne

Dear Pfoho,
Starting this Saturday, we are proud to introduce a new Pfoho tradition: Saturday afternoon High Tea at Annie’s English Rose Tea Shoppe:
On periodic Saturdays, from 4-5pm, Comstock Living Room will be transformed into a rose-themed, cozy English tea house. There, you will have the chance to sit and be served our rendition of one of Britain’s more civilized traditions: high tea. On the menu: a selection of finger sandwiches (cucumber, salmon and ham), home-made scones slathered with jam and clotted cream (if you have never tried this, you need to), and a selection of home-made small cakes. All this washed down – in a refined way, of course -- with cups of freshly-brewed tea, recently brought over by John personally from England. We may even have some live music tinkling in the background, to further set the mood...
[mage result for clotted cream][mage result for afternoon tea][mage result for afternoon tea]
We plan to lay on some 3-4 high teas each semester. Look for a formal invitation from us for the first one, this coming Saturday, later tonight or tomorrow, with a link to sign up!
As they say in England, there’s always time for a cuppa!
Anne and John

Dear all,
Please mark your calendars now for a very important annual tradition: on Friday April 20, our very own Robert Rush will be delivering the Senior Talk at Memorial Church on behalf of Pfoho<https://memorialchurch.harvard.edu/calendar/upcoming/event-service-types/se…>. His talk will take place at Appleton Chapel at 8:45 (Appleton chapel is part of Memorial Church, but can be entered through its own side entrance near the Canaday dorms).
The Senior Talks are a special program run by Morning Prayers, one of the oldest traditions at Harvard. They are a chance for a senior selected by each House to deliver some personal reflections (that need not be religious in nature) within the context of a brief (15 minutes) non-ecumenical service. After Rob's talk, there will be coffee and snacks and above all a chance to congratulate him.
A group of Rob’s friends and fans, tutors and students alike, will be gathering on the stage for breakfast in Pfoho at 7:30am on Friday, and departing from the main entrance at around 8:15am to walk over to the chapel. Feel free to join them or to make your own way there.
This is always a moving and meaningful event worth waking up for!
Very best,
Anne

Okay, Rising PfJuniors, it's your turn:
This is it - TONIGHT we begin room picks for rising juniors.
PAY SPECIAL ATTENTION TO YOUR TIME SLOT!!
At 6:00 pm tonight, we will continue room selection in the House Office. Juniors will pick tonight beginning at 6:00pm. You can take a look at Tuesday night's results to see which rooms have been taken already by going here<http://pfoho.harvard.edu/housing>, and then clicking on "Senior Rooms Chosen April 10". Please also note that Moors 403, 404, & 410, the 3 Belltower suite rooms are also gone, taken in the earlier Belltower Lottery.
If you need a reminder, from that same Housing Lottery page, you can click on "Lottery Night Results" to see your own specific time slot to come in tonight. It's also still posted in hard copy on the House Office windows.
Make sure to be at the House Office lobby at least 5 minutes before your groups' picking time. At your time slot, your group will then enter the House Office through the left end door (next to Mario's office) and pick where you want to live. Just because you averaged together does not mean that you have to live together - you need not pick a suite or suites the size of your averaging group. You cannot however pick a room larger than your group. Individuals have 3 minutes to pick and groups have 2 minutes per person, up to a max of 10 minutes.
On Tuesday and Wednesday nights, on the House Office door facing out, we will have a list of available rooms and mark the rooms off as students choose them.
IF YOU CANNOT MAKE YOUR ROOM SELECTION TIME, THEN HAVE OTHER MEMBERS OF YOUR AVERAGING GROUP SELECT YOUR ROOM. IF YOU AVERAGED ALONE AND CANNOT MAKE YOUR TIME, THEN SEND ME AN EMAIL WITH A LIST OF ROOM CHOICES.
There is a certain number of 200 square foot rooms that will be a available for room selection as singles. However, once that number of rooms are selected, the rest will be marked off as one room doubles for incoming sophomores. This is to make sure that we have enough rooms to house everyone.
Floor plans for the rooms are available (also PIN protected like the ones above) from the Pfoho Housing website here: http://pfoho.harvard.edu/housing.
A list of TOTAL AVAILABLE ROOMS is also available from the Housing link above, but it does not reflect rooms chosen last night. You can consult the "Rooms Chosen" list above to see that.
See you tonight!

Hi Pfoho,
In case you're curious, TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT that the random numbers for each lottery participant as well as blocking groups will be generated, at 7:00 pm in the Pfoho Dining Hall. Everybody is welcome, but you are not required to come as this is just random number generation (aka Lottery Night) and not room selection. If you can't make it, the results will be posted on the Pfoho website hopefully tonight or at the latest tomorrow (http://pfoho.harvard.edu/housing). Results will also be posted on the House Office windows.
[cid:image002.png@01D3D028.A49E8DC0] We'll project onto the dhall screen the program that with the press of a single button will generate your 1) individual random number within your lottery priority level, 2) your block's number from averaging your individual numbers, and 3) your exact time slot to come in this Tuesday or Wednesday night to actually pick your rooms. All of this will then be available on pfoho.harvard.edu. To make things unambiguously fair, we will have a non-participating, mystery guest who will press the button - s/he who may not be blamed for numbers generated!
Pfoho Pfreshman: you, too, will be assigned individual and block lottery numbers. You won't pick rooms this week, but these numbers will determine the order in which your rooming preference forms are considered when I do the rising sophomore housing over the summer.
So c'mon by tonight @ 7:00 if you want to see pfirst hand!

Dear Pfoho Housing Lottery Participants (seniors, so sorry to clog your email again),
The Pfoho Housing Lottery Averaging System is now LIVE.
You can enter your blocking groups anytime from now through Tuesday, April 4th at midnight (or 11:59pm if there's any confusion about which day that is). Couple quick reminders up front:
1) only ONE person should enter the group, you'll need to know everyone's ID number to do this - you do NOT enter individually. Once you submit your group, every member of the group will receive a confirmation email, noting each person's lottery level after your name (1=Rising 2nd Sem. Sr., 2=Rising 1st Sem. Sr., 3=Rising 2nd Sem. Jr., 4=Rising 1st Sem. Jr., 5=Rising 2nd Sem. Soph, 6=Rising 1st Sem. Soph, etc.). You can make updates to your group through midnight on Tuesday, the 4th, by clicking on "Modify Your Group." Any modification will also prompt a new email to each member.
2) your lottery status is determined by the number of terms you've lived in Harvard housing, or have been on credited study abroad. It does not factor in advanced standing, or leaves of absence. Exceptions may include students who chose to adjust their status in a prior lottery, e.g. taking senior standing early, or the few admin reviewed adjustments to allow students to participate in the lottery at the same level as their classmates.
When you go to enter your group, you just need to click on "Register a Group" from the "Lottery Tool" link on the Student Housing section of our Pfoho website at: http://pfoho.harvard.edu/housing. The averaging form that opens up is the form that you fill out in order for your averaging group to be assigned a lottery number (which will happen on Monday 4/10 at dinnertime in the dhall). The lottery number is then used to determine the order of room picks. The reason that they are called 'averaging groups' is that while each person is assigned a lottery number, these numbers are averaged together to determine your group lottery number. It is this group number which is used to determine the order of room picks. Averaging groups need not be the same as your rooming groups. Members of the same averaging group merely pick rooms at the same time during lottery night (or for rising sophomores, are assigned rooms at the same time). So if you want to live in a suite together, you must average together. However, averaging together doesn't mean that you must live in a suite together.
REGARDLESS OF THE SIZE OF YOUR AVERAGING GROUP (1 is the minimum, 12 is the maximum), YOU MUST AVERAGE. EVEN IF YOU DON'T PLAN ON LIVING WITH ANYONE, YOU MUST AVERAGE AS A GROUP OF ONE.
Your ID numbers are used as passwords to access the averaging page. You only need one averaging form per group. DO NOT HAVE EACH MEMBER OF YOUR GROUP FILL OUT HIS OR HER OWN AVERAGING FORM. If by chance your ID doesn't allow access to the form, have someone else in your group try their number. If that still doesn't work, send me an email with your name and ID number and I'll make sure that you get access to this form.
If you still have questions on Averaging, please read the Pfoho Housing Constitution, a link from the Student Housing page mentioned above. This document will answer most of your questions concerning housing procedures so please take the time to read it.
In terms of your class standing, if you are currently in your second semester of your freshmen year, you'll show as a "rising sophomore" as that is the status you are rising to for the beginning of the fall term. If you are currently a first semester junior, you'll show as a "second semester junior." For more on these distinctions and what qualifies as a second semester senior, please see the housing constitution, available at the above link.
And of course, for any the questions that aren't answered by the constitution and the website, please feel free to stop by or email me at swatts(a)fas.harvard.edu<mailto:swatts@fas.harvard.edu>.
Best of luck,
Sue
