by Heather Jacques, Academic Coordinator, Pforzheimer House
Hello Pfohomies!
With the new school year just about upon us, I thought I would take a
moment to remind you of some important and helpful information about
Pfoho email list-servs.
Please see below and don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions!
Best,
Heather

*PFOHO-ANNOUNCE*
(pfoho-announce(a)lists.fas.harvard.edu)
- This mailing list is for official House announcements only. Ordinarily,
only emails written by the House administration, tutors, and HoCo Chairs
may post to this list.
- If you are an active student affiliated with Pfoho (including
off-campus affiliates) you are subscribed to this list, and cannot
unsubscribe.
- Pfoho-Announce is a moderated mailing list.
*PFOHO-OPEN*
(pfoho-open(a)lists.fas.harvard.edu)
- You must be subscribed to send mail to the list.
- Pfopen cannot be an implicit destination (must be in the To or CC
line, not BCC).
- *I would recommend subscribing to Pf-open in some capacity
(individual, digest, or filtered), since pf-announce has fairly restricted
access, which means you'll miss out on a lot of House happenings. *
- *This mailing list is for open discussion and chat (e.g. free food,
help-wanted, things for sale/free, events of interest on campus/in Boston,
etc.).*
- Pfoho-Open is an unmoderated mailing list.
- You may use Pfopen to reserve space in the JCR (such as securing dibs
on the TV for a certain time-frame) or Moors/Wolbach kitchens, but click
here <http://pfoho.harvard.edu/RoomRescal> to learn about reserving
other spaces.
- *To subscribe, modify your subscription, or unsubscribe, click here
<https://lists.fas.harvard.edu/mailman/listinfo/pfoho-open>.*
- Fair warning: this can be a fun but high-volume mailing list. Some
people manage the volume by modifying their subscription to get daily
digests (using the web page referenced above), but filtering mail is also a
helpful approach.
**THE #1 REASON WHY MAILING LIST EMAILS DON'T GO OUT**
The most common problem people run into sending mail to these lists is that
they subscribe with one address (e.g. percypolarbear(a)fas.harvard.edu) and
then send an email to the list using another address (e.g.
percypolarbear(a)gmail.com). The mailing list program isn't smart enough to
know these different addresses belong to the same person, so it will reject
mail from percypolarbear(a)gmail.com since that address is not subscribed.
The simple solution is to always send from the address you used when you
subscribed.
**MESSAGES CAN TAKE A WHILE TO GO OUT**
As with all mailing lists, it can take a bit of time for messages to get
through, occasionally up to a few hours. Please be patient.
**BIG MAILING LISTS DON'T LIKE ATTACHMENTS**
If you want to distribute a document, please post it on the web and include
a link in your message.
*OTHER PFOHO LISTS*
- You may occasionally receive official House announcements and messages
from a class-specific Pfoho-Announce email list, such as pfoho
-announce-sophomore(a)lists.fas.harvard.edu; pfoho-ann
ounce-senior(a)lists.fas.harvard.edu, etc.
- You may be subscribed to an entryway email list, depending on how your
floor tutor manages communication to the students on your floor.
