Notes from the Allston Burr Assistant Dean, Monique Roy, pforzheimerhousedean(a)fas.harvard.edu<mailto:pforzheimerhousedean@fas.harvard.edu>:
It's the last week of classes and reading period/exams are coming up. If you are running into any trouble with courses or in general, please reach out! I've added many appointment times to my calendar this week - please see the link below to sign up.
Remember:
* It's important that you are in direct communication with your professors if you have questions/problems in a particular class - please follow up with me too so I am aware and in a position to help as needed.
* Remember there is a lot of information in the College's continually-updated FAQs<https://dso.college.harvard.edu/coronavirusfaq>
* The Academic Resource Center<https://academicresourcecenter.harvard.edu/> (ARC) is a great resource and is now offering all of their services online. Check it out!
* CAMHS <https://camhs.huhs.harvard.edu/> is also available with many services - see this message<https://camhs.huhs.harvard.edu/message-camhs-chief-barbara-lewis-md> from the director about services during the pandemic.
* The Honor Council has some great tips to review before the end of semester - find them here<https://honorcouncil.fas.harvard.edu/honor-councils-top-five-tips>.
Pfoho ABRD Virtual Office Hours: To schedule a time to talk via phone or Zoom, see Monique's calendar here<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__bit.ly_MR-5Fappointment…> or Heather's calendar here<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__calendar.google.com_ca…> and choose a time that works for you.
Notes from our Pfoho student members of the Harvard College Honor Council
We are Trey (2020), Analli (2021), and TJ (2020) in Pfoho! We are student member(s) of the Harvard College Honor Council.
Because members of the Honor Council recognize the challenges we are all facing between the end of the semester and the pandemic, we want to provide you as much support as possible, and we want to let you know that students on the Honor Council are here to help. Here are a few things we recommend:
1. Read the updated syllabi of all the courses you’re taking this semester, or, if the syllabus hasn’t been updated, take a moment to re-read the original syllabus. This way, you can stay up-to-date on and be reminded of the collaboration, extension, and citation policies for each course. Feel free to email your course staff for clarification questions.
1. Don’t hesitate to reach out to your Resident Dean or course staff if you require support or guidance on your work, including asking for extensions.
1. Take a few minutes to read the Honor Council's Top Five <https://honorcouncil.fas.harvard.edu/honor-councils-top-five-tips> Tips<https://honorcouncil.fas.harvard.edu/honor-councils-top-five-tips>. This is the place to check out if you want to know some specific actions you can take that will help you uphold the Honor Code.
We are happy to help! Feel free to reach out to us at our email address listed below.

This weekend, I am not only offering our usual Pfoho Weekend Riddle Challenge, but am adding a bonus element! Some years ago, a lab in England (at the University of Hertfordshire) undertook a project (through a world-wide canvassing of responses) to identify the funniest joke in the world. Today, I will be sharing with you some of the world-wide winners:
JOKE CORNER:
(Popular in France) An Alsatian goes to a telegram office, takes out a blank form and writes: "Woof. Woof. Woof. Woof. Woof. Woof. Woof. Woof. Woof." The clerk examines the paper and politely tells the dog: "There are only nine words here. You could send another Woof for the same price." "Don’t be ridiculous" the dog scoffed. "That would make no sense at all."
(Popular in the United States) Two men are playing golf one day at their local golf course. One of the men is about to tee off when he notices a long funeral procession on the road next to the course. He stops, takes off his golf cap, closes his eyes, and lowers his head respectfully. His friend says: "Wow, that is the most thoughtful and touching thing I have ever seen. You truly are a kind man." The man shrugs and replies: "Yeah, well we were married for 35 years."
(World-wide favorite) Two hunters are out in the woods when one of them collapses. He doesn't seem to be breathing and his eyes are glazed. The other guy whips out his phone and calls the emergency services. He gasps: "My friend is dead! What can I do?" The operator says: "Calm down, I can help. First, let's make sure he's dead." There is a silence; then a shot is heard. Back now on the phone, the guy says: "OK, now what?"
And now….
THIS WEEK’S WEEKEND RIDDLE CHALLENGE:
Riddle #1: A man is trapped in a room. The room has only two possible exits: two doors. Through the first door, there is a room constructed from magnifying glass. The blazing hot sun instantly fries anything or anyone that enters. Through the second door, there is a fire-breathing dragon.
How does the man escape?
Riddle #2: A woman is sitting, working, in her hotel room when there is a knock at the door. She opens the door to see a strange man. He looks startled and says: "Oh, I'm so sorry – I made a mistake. I thought this was my room." The woman closes the door and immediately calls the front desk to report the man as a security risk.
Why was the woman suspicious of the man?
Anne

Pfoho Upperclass Housing Lottery
To all Fall Term Returning Students, including our newest Pfoho Pfirst-Years: If you are wondering what's happening with our Upperclass Housing Lottery for Fall Term housing, I share your curiosity! In our current uncertain environment, we have been asked to hold off making any sort of Lottery plans for the time being. The good thing is that if we're given the green light to go ahead, there's no reason we can't do it AFTER exams, and therefore not add that stress and effort to exam period. I am thinking through how best to hold the Lottery in virtual form. It will most likely involve a big Zoom class with waiting room for blocking groups to enter and pick rooms. I will pass on info as soon as we're able. In the meantime, you might review the Pfoho Housing Constitution on the Housing page of our website here<https://pfoho.harvard.edu/housing> to familiarize yourself with the process. And if course, if you have questions in the meantime, don't hesitate to be in touch with me at swatts(a)fas.harvard.edu<mailto:swatts@fas.harvard.edu>. Thanks, Pfoho. - Sue

What were these challenging riddles, and what are the solutions?
Riddle #1: A man pushes a wheelbarrow up to a hotel. Angrily, he pays the owner some money, but does not go inside or linger. Instead, a few minutes later, he picks up his wheelbarrow and leaves.
Why?
Answer: The wheelbarrow was a board game piece; the man was playing a game of Monopoly and landed on a square with a hotel!
Riddle #2: A doctor was driving his son to school one day, when a truck ran a red light and struck their car. The doctor was tragically killed, and his son was seriously injured. In a bid to save his life, the son was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was prepared for surgery. The surgeon came in, took one look at him, and, to everyone's surprise, announced: "Someone else will have to do this surgery; I can't. This is my son!"
How is this possible?
Answer: Children generally have two parents, and so it was in this case. The father had been killed, and so the surgeon in the hospital must have been the boy's MOTHER. An alternative correct answer: the boy was the son of a gay couple, and the surgeon was his other father.
