Dear all,
Next week is, of course, Election Week – and not just any election week, but a week involving one of the more high-stakes elections in recent history. We want to be here for any and all of you who want to have a place to share the experience together.
To that end, we have two events lined up for you.
1. Pre-election open conversation for undergraduates: Monday, November 2, 5-6pm:
On Monday early evening, the Institute of Politics will collaborate with all the Houses in creating a civic space for discussing the election. This event is a chance to interact directly with deeply informed commentators, who will help us all unpack what to expect, both on election night and in the days to come. This event will be strictly for undergraduates and you are encouraged to come with whatever is on your mind.
We will begin with a moderated conversation featuring the following exciting individuals: Carol Giacomo, Member of The New York Times Editorial Board (2007-2020); Tara Setmayer, CNN Contributor and Senior Advisor to the Lincoln Project; and Jorge Vasquez Jr., Director of the Power and Democracy Program with Advancement Project. Mark Gearan, the director of the IOP (and former acting Faculty Dean of Winthrop!) will moderate!
The second half of the event will see us to a more student-focused conversation, headlined by Justin Tseng ‘22, Student Chair, Harvard Public Opinion Project and Amanda Powers ‘21, Student Co-chair, Harvard Votes Challenge.
[cid:image001.png@01D6AED3.F5092CC0]
RSVP here by lunchtime on Monday!
https://harvard.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJMvfuqorD8qGtakhne0sCuKhe3nJCE5bW…
1. Election Day evening hang-out, Tuesday, November 3, starting at 8pm until …we decide to go to sleep…
As returns start to come in from across the states on Tuesday night, Pfoho will be joining forces with Cabot House, and opening up a gathering space on the platform Congregate. A wide range of small group tables will be set up where you can meet up with friends, chat with tutors, share screens to watch returns together, and more. We will also have a special guest with us for part of the evening: Nancy Gibbs, a former writer and editor in chief at TIME, presidential historian and currently both director of the Shorenstein Center and the visiting Edward R. Murrow professor at Harvard Kennedy School. Make sure you stop by to say hello to her as well and ask her your questions one-on-one. No need to RSVP for this one: just drop by…

I see it there, under the surface, waiting to escape. There is a monster in
your heart. A werewolf growls, a vampire snarls, La Llorona wails.
Halloween is the time when monsters can walk freely for a few hours and
hiss hello with abandon. Come join me for a half hour and share your most
macabre, your most terrifying, your truest voice.
*FAQ* (for something no one has heard of yet)
*Question*: Do I need to wear a costume?
*Answer*: Are you the kind of monster that wears a costume? Then you should
be in a costume. This is a conversation space that welcomes growls and
howls, not a horror pageant, but we support the things that empower your
inner *GRR GRR*.
*Question*: Are monster hunters welcome?
*Answer*: You are clearly a troll. We welcome scandinavian grotesqueries!
*Question*: How do I know you're not actually monster hunting and this is a
trap?
*Answer*: My adoration of monsterkind is very well known. Barely a day goes
by when I can't be heard walking the halls whilst exclaiming, "You're lucky
I love monsters!"
*Question*: What's your opinion of Godzilla? Does he even count?
*Answer*: Godzilla is the King of Monsters. Do you know what a werewolf is
to Godzilla? A bit of lint that he accidentally swallowed. Do you know what
a banshee is to Godzilla? The faint buzz of a mosquito in a completely
different room. Does Godzilla even count? You know what, this Q&A is over.
Get 'em, Jimmy!

To maximize your snacking pleasure: donut bites should be eaten within 1-2 days of arrival in your home. The other items should be should be eaten within a week, or frozen for a later treat. When you are ready to eat, simply defrost and let set to room temperature.
If you told us that you have a dietary restriction (vegan, nut-free, dairy-free, or a combination), we have taken care of you -- our amazing elf team prepared batches for all requested dietary needs, and packaged them accordingly (Vegan items are labeled with “V” stickers, and folks with nut allergies did not receive walnut fudge but instead two pumpkin fudge options). Please note that while our bakers took great care to keep different batches separate, the kitchen in which they work is not nut- or dairy- free.
BUT WAIT – THERE’S MORE! EXPECT ONE MORE THEMED “OPEN HOUSE IN A BOX” THIS SEMESTER – THE LARGE BOX EDITION…ANNOUNCEMENTS COMING!

Announcements for Students ON Campus:
>From your Community Health Lead, Kate Leach, katherineleach(a)g.harvard.edu<mailto:katherineleach@g.harvard.edu> :
1) Continuing this week, anyone who submits their Crimson Clear for all seven days in the week will be automatically entered into a raffle to win a $25 UberEats coupon! No action necessary, other than submitting your Crimson Clear daily and I will see who has done it all 7 days! Each week's winner will be announced on Wednesday of the pfollowing week.
2) Keep Your HEPA Filter On!: These filters can keep you and others safe. Keep it on, especially in shared spaces, where it should be on the highest setting. For more information, contact our Pfoho Building Manager, Super Mario at mleon(a)fas.harvard.edu<mailto:mleon@fas.harvard.edu>.
Pfind the Pfotos continues-weekly treasure hunt challenge to get outdoors and explore interesting parts of Cambridge in safe, socially distanced ways. The challenge is to find and photograph spots shown in photos given to them in a Google album; they then upload their matching photos in a Google album of their own. Prices are given for the highest number of correct matches.
Last Week's Challenege: "Hidden Harvard" challenge. It was a meandering, but not too difficult walk through some of Harvard's more hidden corners. Sure, you know where to find the Science Center, you know Harvard Yard, and Lamont Library...but do you know where to find Harvard's rhinos??? I thought not. This challenge was an opportunity to discover them - and much more. Door to door, the walk was about three miles, but the matching started properly at the entrance to the law school on Mass Ave...Hope you were able to enjoy! https://photos.app.goo.gl/w4uLJ9fWjTQCYY6c8<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__photos.app.goo.gl_w4uL…>
This week's challenge will include an exploration of Davis Square. Details for this challenge will launch on TUESDAY!

Please join PfoHo Tutors Peter and Makinde this Friday at 3:30 pm ET for PoeTEA. At PoeTEA, we share good tea, good poetry, and good company with each other.
As a fun, new tradition, we often write a communal haiku each week. Come participate in building a shared poem! We are collecting them and may share them in some way at the end of the year.
Our theme for this week: hope/aspiration. Feel free to come with any of your favorite poems about the weekly theme, your favorite poems in general, or come just to listen, chat, and enjoy a cup of your favorite beverage (made in the comfort of your own home...for now!).
