Come spend an early Thanksgiving feast with us -- minus the turkey, creamed onions, and sweet potatoes with melted marshmallows, and focused on the only good part: PIE!
[cid:image001.png@01D36310.4E901B90]
We will have lots, in multiple flavors: apple, pumpkin, pecan, and more. We will also have vanilla ice cream for you to dress it up with.
So come express your gratitude for PIE by joining us at 9pm tomorrow in cozy Comstock Living, complete with a holiday fire and enough for everyone.

On Saturday, October 21, we are planning a hiking pforay for all of you to Mt Monadnock (a mountain in New Hampshire), so that you all can experience the fall foliage season of New England in all its brilliant colors.
The plan is to leave in the morning by bus at around 8am, arrive in Jaffrey, NH around 10am, and climb to the top (fortified with lots of water, hot chocolate, and trail mix). The climb is roughly two miles, and most people take 90-120 minutes to reach the summit. There is no hurry, and we will naturally separate into smaller groups climbing at a pace that is comfortable for everyone.
Once we have conquered the summit, we will settle down for a picnic lunch, a well-deserved rest and good conversation, all while gazing out at the 360 degree views of New England at the peak of the vibrant fall foliage season. Bring cameras!
The bus will be waiting for us when we climb back down. We expect to be home before 5pm.
If you want to come, you need to sign up on this <https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSempPVC5pscGRWahqdhpmcjD9_WGqc89U_…> form. I will keep the sign-up sheet open for one week – until Sunday October 8 at midnight, and I will send out a reminder email on Friday. We will be able to take close to 50 people, so we expect that everyone who signs up will be able to attend! That said, once we know the numbers of people interested, we will ask you to definitively confirm your participation.
Looking forward to a day of beauty, good fellowship and outdoor adventure!
Anne

Dear Pfoho,
Starting this Saturday, we are proud to introduce a new Pfoho tradition: Saturday afternoon High Tea at Annie’s English Rose Tea Shoppe:
On periodic Saturdays, from 4-5pm, Comstock Living Room will be transformed into a rose-themed, cozy English tea house. There, you will have the chance to sit and be served our rendition of one of Britain’s more civilized traditions: high tea. On the menu: a selection of finger sandwiches (cucumber, salmon and ham), home-made scones slathered with jam and clotted cream (if you have never tried this, you need to), and a selection of home-made small cakes. All this washed down – in a refined way, of course -- with cups of freshly-brewed tea, recently brought over by John personally from England. We may even have some live music tinkling in the background, to further set the mood...
[mage result for clotted cream][mage result for afternoon tea][mage result for afternoon tea]
We plan to lay on some 3-4 high teas each semester. Look for a formal invitation from us for the first one, this coming Saturday, later tonight or tomorrow, with a link to sign up!
As they say in England, there’s always time for a cuppa!
Anne and John

We are happy to announce that Pfoho will be participating in a Party
FastPass Registration option again this year! The objective of this program
is to empower students to responsibly host impromptu, organic, and safe
social gatherings. In order to qualify, all members of a suite must have
attended one of the trainings (linked below) that is being offered by OSAPR
and AODS. The deadlines for signing up are 2 pm Friday, 9/6 for the Sat
(9/7) and Sun (9/8) workshops and 2 pm Friday, 9/13, for the Sat (9/14) and
Sun (9/15) workshops.
All of the workshops take place from 2 to 4 pm. Each training is 2 hours
in length and will include a presentation of CAREs followed by a
presentation from DAPA. The focus of the training will be strategies for
hosts to create more successful and safe events by thinking through a
number of strategies for setting up and managing a successful event from
concept to completion.

*How Does the FastPass System Work?*
1. Sign up and attend a workshop session. All members of a suite must
attend a workshop in order for a suite to qualify. They do not have to
attend on the same day.
2. Following the workshop, schedule a meeting with Monique Roy, Heather
Jacques or a Senior Tutor (Erik Nook, Kate Leach, or David Mou) to discuss
safe and responsible party hosting.
3. For each party thereafter, FastPass register your party before it
begins by filling out a quick google form.
4. Confirm receipt with the TOC (the tutor will be in touch or you may
call 617-651-1636 if time is short).
*Note: *This does *not* work for the Igloo, just parties in your suites.

Dinner tonight will be in Currier House, from 5:00-7:30pm:
After that, starting around 7:30 (sunset) we will gather around fire pits on Pfoho’s Moors Terrace, to roast marshmallows, make S’Mores and meet new people. The Pfoho resident tutor team will be out in force to help welcome you.
See you all soon!

Dear Pfoho,
In a few short days, you will be returning to campus -- and either coming back Pfohome, or joining the Pfamily; we look forward very much to welcoming you all back!
Over the summer, we have been working hard on various improvements to the House – new spaces! new amenities! – and we can’t wait to announce them formally to you all.
SOPHOMORE-ONLY EVENTS
Sophomores, you have been hearing from us separately about all the welcoming activities we have planned for you. We will write again to all of you very soon with a big picture overview of the upcoming weekend events: they begin with early-move-in activities on Friday, August 30, and end with a BBQ celebratory dinner on Monday, September 2 in the Faculty Row courtyard (with live steel drum music and beach volleyball!). For those of you who will be joining us for 24 hours at “Camp Pfoho” in East Brookfield, MA, look for an additional email soon with details about transportation, your overnight rooming assignment, and more.
DINING HALLS
The Pfoho Dining Hall opens for dinner on Sunday, Sept. 1st. We will all be there in force, and look forward to greeting you all. Currier’s Dining Hall will be open starting at lunchtime on Thursday, August 29.
QUAD MOVIE NIGHT
We plan to welcome everyone back to our lovely Quad with what has become an annual tradition: Quad movie night! Right after dinner on Sunday evening 1st September, it will be time for “Superhero Sunday,” with a double feature film presentation out on the Quad lawn. We will start around 7:30pm, with the more kid-friendly “Incredibles 2<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.youtube.com_watch-…>” (some of the neighborhood families might come for that one). Then at about 9pm, we will show “Spiderman: Far from Home.<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.youtube.com_watch-…>” Both films will be shown on an enormous outdoor screen with surround sound speakers. To enhance the experience, we will be giving out big, movie-style candy bars, glow sticks, drinks and of course bags of popcorn. There will be Adirondack chairs and comfy blankets to sit and lie on. Come join us!
TUTOR-ON-CALL (TOC)
Our official Tutor-On-Call schedule is up and running. When you arrive, you’ll find posters posted on your floor, and around the main entrance area—the tutor-on-call is someone you can always reach with any issues outside usual business hours or on weekends: just call 617-651-1636.
OTHER EMERGENCY #S
Other important emergency numbers include:
HUPD (Harvard Police): 617-495-1212 and
UHS (Urgent Care): 617-495-5711
FLOOR/ENTRYWAY MEETINGS
First floor/entryway meetings are mandatory, and will occur from 9pm-10pm on Monday, Sept. 2rd. These meetings are a chance to learn about our community safety standards and to get to know your resident tutors and your new neighbors – and they are a lot of fun too! Your floor tutors will be getting in touch with you about the location of your meetings.
ICE CREAM BASH
Immediately following the first floor/entryway meetings, we will have a whole Pfoho gathering for our All House Ice-Cream Welcome Bash in the DHall at 10pm. There will be ice cream cakes in every imaginable flavor and a chance to meet all of the key people who are here to support you during your time in Pfoho!
PARTIES
We know you want to socialize and reconnect to friends, but know that formal parties won’t be permitted until after the first floor/entryway meetings on Monday, Sept. 2nd, when we will be going over community rules, standards and safety procedures. Starting Tuesday, Sept. 3rd, the usual party registration system will apply—and your floor tutors will go over that process for you in the meeting. Also, stay tuned for details on the FastPass party registration system, coming soon. For more information on parties, consult this link: http://pfoho.harvard.edu/parties
Much, much more to come – see you all soon!
With pflove,
Anne, John and Monique
