Dear all,
Well, we didn’t QUITE make 60% participation in the house life survey, but we did hit 55%, and exceeded the participation rates of the majority of the other houses (the highest participation rate in any house was actually only 60%)
We think you all have earned yourselves an all-out pancake and movie party, with all the trimmings. Thank you for your participation – and watch for details about this event next semester!

Also, we have turned Comstock living room into a cozy study space, with a lit fire. First help yourselves to some things to eat, and go settle down there, if you would like. ... we will keep the fire going until 11 PM.

Greetings Pfoho!
Does the cold winter weather have you eager to warm up with some *freshly
baked cookies*? Do final exams have you looking for a cozy space to
just *unwind
and relax*? Does the end of the semester and upcoming break have you
asking the *bigger life questions*?
If so, then we're excited to invite you into our home this *SATURDAY
(12/14) evening from 8:30-9:30pm *for the next installment of
*Cookies & Conversation*! We've had great turnout and amazing discussions
about failure and success thanks to those who have attended the last few
conversations, so we're excited to continue the momentum. For those who
haven't come to one yet, think of these as "life chats" about the topics
you can't find in your course catalog (combined with amazing sweets). Some
topics will be more practical, others will be more personal, and if there
are specific topics you'd like to discuss, please tell us here
<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdMz6feplKQK4o9eZ9MXLBMTO1cg6SSl7H…>!
We'll kick off Saturday's time with introductions before revealing the
topic for the evening.
- *What: * A regular time to feel "at home," enjoy delicious treats, and
connect through deeper conversation about topics that matter with people
who care
- *When: *This upcoming Saturday (12/14) from 8:30-9:30pm, and every
few weeks thereafter
- *Where: * Holmes 1 tutor suite (right next to the JCR)
- *Who:* Pfoho students (facilitated by your tutors!)
We'll have limited spots available on a first-come-first-served basis, so
be sure to *RSVP simply by replying to this email*!
We look forward to seeing many of you soon!
Best,
Mike and Liza Silvestri

Dear all,
To encourage you all to fill out the college House Life Survey, we propose the following: in return to a healthy response (at least 60%), we will lay on a special pancake and movie party night in the DHall early next semester: think John, me and tutors flipping hot pancakes right on electric griddles, lots of toppings, and a crowd-pleasing film playing on the big screen…

Sound good? Then please consider giving up TEN MINUTES of your time and filling out the survey. If you love Pfoho, make sure the College knows! If you have suggestions about ways we can better serve your needs, make sure WE know! The survey closes on December 13, 2019

Dear all,
As we enter the final weekend of exam period, John and I would like to take a slightly different approach to supporting you all as you push through the last days of the semester. We will NOT have Hygge this Sunday. Instead, John and I will be laying out evening snacks for you all on both Saturday AND Sunday in the Dining Hall (the exact nature of which will depend on the results of our evening foraging at Costco tonight!). We will also light a fire in the fireplace in Comstock Living Room, both nights, and invite those of you who wish, to use it as a quiet, cozy study space …

We’ve got your back!

Dear Student:
Holiday season approaches, a few reminders about room safety, holiday decorations and winter break.
Please note that the College prohibits the use of cooking appliances in any room or apartment not equipped with kitchen as the facilities. The one exception to this policy is the Micro-Fridge, available for sale at http://www.microfridge.com/commercial/ai_prod.html or for rent at HSA.
In addition, College Fire Safety Instructions stipulate that "the use of candles is prohibited in House and dormitory rooms. CANDLES WILL BE CONFISCATED AND DISPOSED OF ON THE INSPECTION DAY.
Menorahs may be lit only in House common areas and only with the approval of the Faculty Deans. They must always be attended." To ensure the safety of everyone living in the dorms, inspectors will be conducting Fire/Safety Inspections of student rooms during the winter recess (12/20/2019 - 1/16/2020). Inspections begin promptly on December 20th at 9 AM. Inspectors will leave a note indicating any violation of College fire and safety policy found in your suite. Items that violate the policy include:
* All cooking appliances (with the exception of Micro-Fridges), such as
* Microwaves not part of a Micro-Fridge
* Toasters
* Coffee makers and hot pots
* Grills
* Popcorn makers
* Rice cookers
* All open sources of flame, such as
* Candles (even for religious ceremonies)
* BBQ grills
* Incense
* All combustibles, such as
* Lighter fluid
* Charcoal
Please note rooms will be re-inspected in late January / early February. Any items found that violate fire or safety policy will be confiscated and donated to charity and your Resident Dean will be notified of the ongoing violation.
In addition, blocked fire exits, disconnected smoke alarms, discharged fire extinguishers, and overloaded power strips or inadequate extension cords are violations of College fire and safety policy.
No live holiday trees are permitted in the following occupancies at the University:
. Assembly (i.e. Dining halls, Conference rooms, Common rooms, etc.)
. Dormitories
. Educational
. Hotels
The revised Massachusetts Comprehensive Fire Safety Code (527 CMR 1.00), took effect on January 1, 2015.
Trees found in student suites during Room Inspections will be removed and disposed of immediately. A term bill charge will be assessed to the entire suite for each disposed tree. Lights and decorations may also be disposed of.
Those students wishing to partake in menorah-lighting ceremonies should contact Harvard Hillel at 495-4696 or www.hillel.harvard.edu<http://www.hillel.harvard.edu>
Thank you for your help in maintaining the safety of our House.
