Dear Pfoho Housing Lottery Participants (seniors, so sorry to clog your email again),
The Pfoho Housing Lottery Averaging System is now LIVE.
You can enter your blocking groups anytime from now through Tuesday, April 4th at midnight (or 11:59pm if there's any confusion about which day that is). Couple quick reminders up front:
1) only ONE person should enter the group, you'll need to know everyone's ID number to do this - you do NOT enter individually. Once you submit your group, every member of the group will receive a confirmation email, noting each person's lottery level after your name (1=Rising 2nd Sem. Sr., 2=Rising 1st Sem. Sr., 3=Rising 2nd Sem. Jr., 4=Rising 1st Sem. Jr., 5=Rising 2nd Sem. Soph, 6=Rising 1st Sem. Soph, etc.). You can make updates to your group through midnight on Tuesday, the 4th, by clicking on "Modify Your Group." Any modification will also prompt a new email to each member.
2) your lottery status is determined by the number of terms you've lived in Harvard housing, or have been on credited study abroad. It does not factor in advanced standing, or leaves of absence. Exceptions may include students who chose to adjust their status in a prior lottery, e.g. taking senior standing early, or the few admin reviewed adjustments to allow students to participate in the lottery at the same level as their classmates.
When you go to enter your group, you just need to click on "Register a Group" from the "Lottery Tool" link on the Student Housing section of our Pfoho website at: http://pfoho.harvard.edu/housing. The averaging form that opens up is the form that you fill out in order for your averaging group to be assigned a lottery number (which will happen on Monday 4/10 at dinnertime in the dhall). The lottery number is then used to determine the order of room picks. The reason that they are called 'averaging groups' is that while each person is assigned a lottery number, these numbers are averaged together to determine your group lottery number. It is this group number which is used to determine the order of room picks. Averaging groups need not be the same as your rooming groups. Members of the same averaging group merely pick rooms at the same time during lottery night (or for rising sophomores, are assigned rooms at the same time). So if you want to live in a suite together, you must average together. However, averaging together doesn't mean that you must live in a suite together.
REGARDLESS OF THE SIZE OF YOUR AVERAGING GROUP (1 is the minimum, 12 is the maximum), YOU MUST AVERAGE. EVEN IF YOU DON'T PLAN ON LIVING WITH ANYONE, YOU MUST AVERAGE AS A GROUP OF ONE.
Your ID numbers are used as passwords to access the averaging page. You only need one averaging form per group. DO NOT HAVE EACH MEMBER OF YOUR GROUP FILL OUT HIS OR HER OWN AVERAGING FORM. If by chance your ID doesn't allow access to the form, have someone else in your group try their number. If that still doesn't work, send me an email with your name and ID number and I'll make sure that you get access to this form.
If you still have questions on Averaging, please read the Pfoho Housing Constitution, a link from the Student Housing page mentioned above. This document will answer most of your questions concerning housing procedures so please take the time to read it.
In terms of your class standing, if you are currently in your second semester of your freshmen year, you'll show as a "rising sophomore" as that is the status you are rising to for the beginning of the fall term. If you are currently a first semester junior, you'll show as a "second semester junior." For more on these distinctions and what qualifies as a second semester senior, please see the housing constitution, available at the above link.
And of course, for any the questions that aren't answered by the constitution and the website, please feel free to stop by or email me at swatts(a)fas.harvard.edu<mailto:swatts@fas.harvard.edu>.
Best of luck,
Sue

On Saturday afternoon, February 11, a bus will be departing from Pfoho at 12:30pm for the Nashoba Valley snow tubing park. You will want to be on that bus!
Snow tubing is a winter sport that requires NO SKILLS AT ALL. You get into giant inner tubes and you hang on as the tube glides, sails, or bumps (depending on preference and conditions) down steep or (if you prefer) less steep groomed snow trails. Sometimes people make chains of tubes. Sometimes people fall off and laugh. Snow banks on each side ensure you stay in lane. Once you are at the bottom of the hill, a drag lift takes you back to the top.
Nashoba Valley's snow tubing park has 18 different snow trails and four lifts. There is a hot beverage and snack bar on the premises. We will snow tube from around 2-4pm, you will then have a chance to get some hot chocolate if you like, and we will have you back at Pfoho by 5:30 at the latest. Dress for snow play (snow pants, boots, parka or ski jackets, waterproof and lined gloves or mittens).
Sign up her<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfAtlPMfdCBaS6jEIu0j_1AFo4Ef7nhpRB…>e by Sunday, February 5, if you want to come. The House is covering the cost for this event (snow tubing tickets and transportation). We are asking – pleading – for you to honor your commitment to come, if you sign up, or to tell us immediately if something comes up at the last minute.
We are able to take 45 students (the number that we can accommodate on the bus). We hope that we will be able to find room for everyone who wants to come (we did last year),, but if we have to run a lottery, we will.

Hi Everyone!
Marie and I can't wait to welcome many of you back for wintersession next week! To kick it off, we're planning an afternoon outing to Made-By-Me pottery painting studio in our very own Porter Square on Monday afternoon (~2-4pm).
This is the perfect opportunity to make something for that special Valentine, a birthday or thank-you gift, or perhaps something useful for the upcoming semester!
The House will cover the studio fee, paint, and a base pottery budget, and there is no artistic talent necessary (even Kate can paint [😊] )!
If you're interested in joining us, please email me directly with your name and phone number.
Looking forward to it!
Stacy and Marie

Hi Pfoho,
The Lottery Night Results are now posted on the House Office windows, and they'll soon be on http://pfoho.harvard.edu/housing, either tonight or first thing tomorrow.
Please pay SPECIAL ATTENTION to your specific time (far right column), either on Tuesday night or Wednesday night, to come in and pick your room(s). If you miss your time slot, we can't back things up, you'll just have to pick later. There will be a full list of rooms posted on the House Office door and they'll get crossed off in live time as they're taken in the lottery. Come down 5 minutes or so before your time, ready with your list of rooms in preference order.
A reminder one more time to Rising Sophomores - you won't pick rooms at this time, but the lottery listing will indicate the order in which you'll be assigned housing when I do the housing this summer. Once the upperclass rooms are chosen, the list of remaining rooms will be posted so you'll know your options.
Good luck all. Seniors, see you tomorrow night!

Hi there!
We are excited to invite you to Raise Uganda Now's 2017 Million Pound
Challenge! As you may know, Raise Uganda Now is a 501(c)3 registered
nonprofit that finances RUN orphanage in Nankoma, Uganda. At our orphanage,
RUN provides housing, tutoring, food, and safety to 25 children who
suffered parental loss and abandonment for the past two years. For more
information about our organization, please check out our website
www.raiseugandanow.org!
The event will occur on *4/1/17 fro**m 4-6pm at **Cabot House's gym*. For
this fundraiser, everyone will work toward lifting a combined 1,000,000 lbs
of weight using whatever combination of exercises, sets, and reps they
choose. For example, if you lift 30 pounds for ten repetitions, you’ve
brought the team 300 pounds closer to the goal!
Following the event, we will have a catered party in Cabot's Fishbowl for
participants to celebrate all of your hard work and contributions. During
the party, we will hand out prizes for the top lifters and fundraisers!
To sign up, click here
<http://www.raiseugandanow.org/million-pound-challenge-2017> and pledge to
donate a minimum of $35 under the section labeled 'Participants'. A
donation of $35 supports one of our children for one month at the RUN
orphanage - this includes food, housing, clothing, schooling and
healthcare. We encourage you ask your friends and family to sponsor your
participation in the Million Pound Challenge.
When you sign up, we will send you more information and a template for
suggestions about how to ask your friends and family for sponsorship. If
you know of anyone else who would be interested in lifting weights for
charity, please pass this invitation along to them.
We hope you will join us on April 1st, and we look forward to showing you
how you can help our children through participating in the Million Pound
Challenge.
Warmly,
Haley, Spencer, David, Greg and Marina
