Hello!
The Quad community is warmly welcomed to attend the Queer Quad Dinner on
November 4th at 6pm. This is an informal event in which all BGLTQ+
students (and allies!) of the Quad can come together for delicious food,
nourishing conversation, and a celebration of our shared community. Prof.
Mark Jordan will host us in his residence at 48A Linnaean St. This event
is well loved each semester, so we hope you'll come along to enjoy it. All
students are welcome!
Sincerely,
Quad BGLTQ Tutors

Hi PfoHo:
Have you ever wondered what academic freedom is all about? Tomorrow night’s PfoHo Pforum speaker really knows.
Barakatullo Ashurov is a Visiting Scholar in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, who has experienced at first hand what it means to suffer persecution for the sake of his academic studies. Barakat and his family are new members of our PfoHo community. They are living in Faculty Row under the Harvard “Scholars at Risk” program, having been forced to flee their home in Central Asia.
In tomorrow night’s PfoHo Pforum, Barakat will consider the question of academic freedom in the Central Asian Region, drawing on his own and his family’s personal experiences.
Please come and join us: for a reception in the Senior Common Room at 6:00pm, dinner on the Dining Hall balcony at 6:30pm, and Barakat’s talk in the Hastings Room over coffee and dessert at 7:15pm.
We hope to see many of you there!

Fall Housing Deadlines on the horizon:
Applications for all of these are available at the StarRez Residential portal here<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__harvard.starrezhousing…>.
Cancelling your housing for Spring Term<http://osl.fas.harvard.edu/housing-cancellation>:
If you're planning to go on study abroad or take a leave of absence for the spring term, you must cancel your housing contract. Just go to the StarRez Residential Portal<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__harvard.starrezhousing…>, and look for the undergraduate housing forms 2018-19, then find the cancellation form. Also keep in mind that you'll need to re-apply for housing for when you plan to return. The prompt to re-apply will follow the cancellation process in StarRez.
Application Deadline:
Up through Monday, Nov. 12-no fee
Full fee schedule is here<http://osl.fas.harvard.edu/fees>.
If you know you will not be here in the Spring 2019 term, you are encouraged to cancel your housing. If you do so before November 12, you will not face a fee. It is always the student's responsibility to cancel their housing-talking to the Resident Dean or House Administrator does not automatically cancel your housing. Receiving approval for a voluntary leave or study abroad does not cancel housing either.
Applying for Inter-House Transfer<http://osl.fas.harvard.edu/interhouse-transfer>
Application deadline: Monday, November 12.
No applications for Spring 2019 accepted after Nov. 12.
The online form is also available the portal listed above, https://harvard.starrezhousing.com/StarRezPortal/<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__harvard.starrezhousing…> . Login with ID and PIN, click on Undergraduate Housing Forms, and then on Spring Interhouse Transfer Request. Results will be available later in November. Students at a minimum must be in their 2nd term of residency in their assigned House this fall in order to apply to transfer to another House. If your application is successful, you must move your things to the new House before you leave for the holiday break.
If you have any questions about any of the above, please stop by or email Sue in the House Office (swatts(a)fas.harvard.edu<mailto:swatts@fas.harvard.edu>).
Winter Recess Housing: for housing anytime between Dec. 21, 5 p.m. to Jan. 18, 9:00 a.m.
If you have a need to stay in your room between Dec. 21, 5 p.m. and Jan. 18, 8:59 a.m., you should apply for Winter Recess Housing. The college opens to everyone again on January 18, 9:00 am. This process requires approval to stay on campus, so when you apply, please be sure to have information at hand which demonstrates your need. Everything you need to know about Winter Recess Housing is available on the OSL website here: https://osl.fas.harvard.edu/winterhousing..
Information about dates, deadlines, and eligibility can be found on the DSO website here.<https://osl.fas.harvard.edu/deadlines> Please note that you must have a valid reason to remain on campus and you must plan to be on campus for both the Fall 2018 and Spring 2019 terms.
Please note that no applications will be accepted after Monday, November 26, 2018. DSO is unable to make extensions to this deadline as a number of campus partners must be informed of who will remain on campus. Those who are not approved to remain on campus or return early will have their HUID cards deactivated and will not be able to access the Houses or Dorms.
There is no application fee to apply for Winter Recess Housing if you do so on or before Friday, November 16, 2018. After that date, all applications will be charged a $50 administrative fee regardless of the application decision.

Our non-resident music tutor team is organizing a musical activity tonight
for any and all musical pfolks. Score is attached. If anybody is interested
in joining either as musician or listener, they should meet in the balcony
of the dining hall sometime between 8:45 and 8:55, just to meet and get a
short introductory set of directions. Then it just goes, for about an hour.
Please email Rodney cc'd with question. Thanks!

Dear all,
All of you will have woken up to the tragic news of a mass shooting in a synagogue in Pittsburgh. The terrible details are still coming to light, but it already seems pretty clear that this was a hate crime. We wanted to reach out to any and all of you who might be feeling particularly affected by this news, for whatever reason, and say that you are not alone. John and I will be opening up our residence this evening, from 8pm onward, and invite anyone who wishes to come by, whether to talk or just to be together for a bit. And I know we always say this, but only because it is true: none of you should also ever hesitate to reach out to me, Monique, or any tutor you feel comfortable with.
With sorrow,
Anne

Hi Pfoho,
Just a Shuttle heads up about TOMORROW night (Saturday) while Currier’s annual Heaven & Hell party is going on…
The Quad driveway will be closed tomorrow, 10/27, at approximately 9:30pm for Heaven & Hell. Shuttles will be re-routed to drop off and pick up on Shepard street. The event ends at 2am, and the driveway will re-open when the crowds have dispersed and the event organizers/HUPD have deemed it safe and the transportation dispatch will notify the drivers. Extra shuttles have been ordered to loop from the Quad to the end of Garden Street for the event.
Happy pre-Halloween Weekend! Stay safe!
