One more premed announcement!
We are restarting our monthly premed dinners this year. These will be
informal group dinners in the dining hall, which will give you the chance
to get to know the premed advising team, as well as to learn more about
careers in medicine and applying to medical school. These dinners will be
scheduled on the first Saturday of the month at 6:30pm.
The *first premed dinner will be on October 6th in the Pfoho D-hall
starting at 6:30pm*.
We would love to see you if you can make it! We plan to have roughly
monthly dinners, so plenty of opportunities to meet us throughout the year.
Simona on behalf of the premed team

For sophomores (and also any new premeds in the house), there will be an
introductory meeting
*September 30 at 8 pm in the Hastings Room* where you will meet your Pfoho

medical school. You are strongly encouraged to attend.
The meeting will be followed by our *annual fall premed reception* at *9 pm

Hello all,
Please take note of an event on entrepreneurship taking place in Cabot
tomorrow.
If you're thinking about entrepreneurship as a career option, consider
heading next door to hear the founder of Cabot Cafe, Jesse Kaplan ‘13, talk
about starting the Cafe while he was still a student at Harvard, and how
his start-up, Parcel was acquired by Walmart in 2017.
See the attached document for more details!

안녕하세요 포호 여러분!
I'm incredibly excited to share that this idea I've discussed with many of
you is finally coming to fruition! (Dream come true :D)
A lover of learning languages, I've always appreciated language tables at
Harvard, as conversational practice is one of the most important aspects of
getting comfortable with the language. However, I also felt that these
tables weren't immersive enough. There's so much more to learning a
language, such as understanding the cultural nuances behind everyday acts
such as sharing a meal and interacting with people of different ages or
backgrounds.
In an attempt to create a more immersive environment with deeper exposure
to Korean language and culture, I will start hosting a Korean
Language/Cultural Immersion Event in my room (W201), in which students can
1) enjoy a traditional, home-cooked Korean meal from yours truly, 2) learn
about cultural customs surrounding eating and drinking and interacting with
elders/peers, 3) practice their Korean in a safe space, 4) listen to/talk
about Korean music, and 5) meet other Korean language students.
Since there is a limited budget for this, I'm going to ask that you sign up
only if you are either currently studying or have previously studied Korean
language. This is a new idea, so it is still subject to modifications, but
we will likely meet at least three times this semester.
Please sign up here if interested:

Notes from the Allston Burr Resident Dean, Monique Roy (pforzheimerhousedean(a)fas.harvard.edu)<mailto:pforzheimerhousedean@fas.harvard.edu)>:
You can also reach Abby at pforz(a)fas.harvard.edu<mailto:pforz@fas.harvard.edu>
CROSS-REGISTRATION:
Cross-registration requests (including for MIT courses) can be handled online through my.harvard. Instructions are here<https://harvard.service-now.com/ithelp?id=kb_article&sys_id=2cd9131ddb350fc…>. October 9th is the cross-registration deadline BUT you also need to register by the registration deadline for the institution in question.
Remember: you need to petition separately if you'd like to receive concentration credit for cross-registered courses; paper forms for that are available here<http://hwpi.harvard.edu/files/fas-registrar/files/cross_registration_concen…> and outside my office. Finally, before you decide to cross-register, make sure to familiarize yourself with the cross-registration policies in the Student Handbook, here<http://handbook.fas.harvard.edu/book/cross-registration>. For instance, new this year, you may only count eight credits from cross-registered courses toward your 128 required credits for graduation but there are several exceptions:
* If you have already taken more than eight xreg credits, the excess credits will not be deducted from your total
* There is no limit to the number of credits that may be counted from xreg MIT classes
* Courses that are approved for concentration credit do not count against the eight-credit limit.
Let me or Abby know if you have questions!
SIMULTANEOUS ENROLLMENT:
In most cases, it is not possible to enroll in two classes that overlap in meeting times (except for CS 50). If you are interested in learning about ad board petitions for other simultaneously enrolled courses, please visit this form<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__goo.gl_forms_qXrUMse7t…>. Also, you can see the Handbook guidelines here<https://handbook.fas.harvard.edu/book/simultaneous-enrollment>.
GEN ED QUESTIONS?
The Gen Ed Program has a useful website here<https://generaleducation.fas.harvard.edu/advice-students> to address questions about the revamped requirements.
UPCOMING ACADEMIC DEADLINES:
Consider adding these key dates to your calendars as a reminder.
Last day to Add/Drop without a fee: Mon., Sept 24
Last day to Add/Drop or change grading status: (Fifth Monday) Tues., Oct 9
Last day with Withdraw from a course: (Seventh Monday) Mon., Oct 22
APPOINTMENTS WITH ME:

I have several days/slots available this week and will add more in coming weeks. If these times don't work for you, just email me and we will set something else up. *Water. Earth. pFire. Air.*
*Long ago, the pfour neighborhoods lived together in harmony. Then,
everything changed when the River attacked. Only Matt Young, master of all
pfour degrees (MD, JD, AB, HH), could stop them, but when the world needed
him most, he vanished. *
*A hundred years passed and my block mates and I discovered a polar bear, a
water bender named Percy, and although his water bending skills are great,
he has a lot to learn bepfore he's ready to save anyone. But I believe
Percy can save the quad.*
[image: image.png]
If you haven’t understood the references at this point, you obviously
didn’t spend your childhood trying to water bend every time you were in a
pool.
BUT
For those of you who remember painting blue arrows on your forehead - and
for those of you who want to pfind out more - boy, do we have a show for
you!!
Tomorrow night, on a Moors Terrace near you, we’ll be hosting our first
Netpflix Night,
Friday 8 pm on Moors Terrace
[image: image.png]
We’ll be watching 3-4 episodes of the only Avatar: The Last Airbender ever
made, the animated series.
*Yes, that’s the only one that’s ever been made, do not look up some sort
of real life kind of movie or anything, nobody would be shortsighted enough
to make one of those…*
There will be tons of popcorn and drinks, so come out and watch one of the
best shows ever made!
Pflove,
HoCo
