Sunita de Tourreil, Founder of The Chocolate Garage
<http://thechocolategarage.com/> in Palo Alto, invites you to join us for
an evening of exploring cacao, happy chocolate and your role in creating
change with each chocolate bar you choose to buy.
We will start with an introduction to the basics of growing and harvesting
cacao, and touch on a few of the many, intricate steps that need to be
perfected to create a delicious bar with minimal ingredients. This will be
followed by some applied learning, tasting some happy chocolate and less
happy chocolate. We will look at The Chocolate Garage as a model for
building community, up and down the supply chain and the untapped value
that this unlocks. I hope a discussion will ensue around building new ways
of engaging with our food, while building business models that align
building community with local, high quality and carefully crafted. Bring
your palates, hearts and minds!
Dr. Carla D. Martin of the Department of African and African American
Studies and the spring semester 2016 class AAAS 119x: Chocolate, Culture,
and the Politics of Food will also be in attendance.
