Dear Colleagues,
I am attaching a copy of the flyer for a workshop hosted by NNIN/C on CUDA
programming to be presented at Harvard University from August 12-14, 2009.
The workshop will present an introduction to parallel programming with the
general purpose graphics processing unit (GPGPU) and will describe
optimization techniques and topics of current research. Afternoon hands-on
sessions will lead participants through the elements of programming on the
GPU. Registered participants are limited to 30. Registration will include
an account on the NNIN nodes of the new GPGPU cluster, "Orgoglio."
Registration fee is $250.
Thanking you,
Mario

Dear group,
Here's a draft of a long-overdue paper on calculating molecular properties
and geometry optimization on a quantum computer (you may remember a group
meeting on this about a year ago). I think it will go on the arxiv next week
maybe, so I'm soliciting comments. If any of you care about this kind of
stuff, I'd really appreciate any comments you might have or glaring errors
you might have noticed.
Thanks,
Ivan

Dear group,
Tomorrow we're being visited by Dr. Ben Lanyon, the optical quantum computer
experimentalist(!) from Australia who has been collaborating with us on
actually implementing some of our quantum algorithms.
Ben will be giving the group meeting at 2 pm, which you should attend
because it will be both interesting and mandatory. After that, he'll meet
with Alan and then probably go to beer at 5. Therefore, if you'd like to
meet with Ben, you should plan on doing so before lunch, which we'll
probably go to around 12:30. In fact, because I suspect that there are quite
a few people who could use a quantum computer, let me know tonight if you're
interested in talking with Ben, so that we can make a loose schedule.
Ben's website,
http://physics.uq.edu.au/people/lanyon/BensPhysicsSite/Home.html, in
addition to his cool papers, features photographic evidence for why you
should live in Queensland and not Massachusetts.
