Dear All
We will have a talk by Peter Young at 3:00 in the fourth floor
seminar room of building 6c. This is about his numerical studies of
the performance of the adiabatic algorithm. See you there.
Best,
Eddie

Dear Quanta,
Eddie is apparently away, but we'll meet at 3:00 tomorrow in the usual
spot. We'll be honored with a visit from Ronald de Wolf of CWI in
Amsterdam.
Best,
Scott
Dear group,
It's that time of year again. The time when Ivan, after having finally
understood something he should have understood a long time ago (this
time it was the true nature of the exchange interaction of two fermions
in a box), and with the consequent smug self-congratulation, decides to
waste some time by haranguing his coworkers with requests for coffee
money.
We have been using the coffee about as fast as predicted in March, so we
will continue the same pricing structure. However, because we are also
running out of cleaning and decalcification tablets, the price will
increase from $3 to $4. That is, everyone who drinks coffee must pay me
$4 for each coffee that they drink in one average week. So, if you drink
5 coffees in one week on average, you give me $20. This payment should
supply you with great cheap coffee until about November. I have a piece
of paper that remembers how much each of you paid last time, if you
would find that information valuable.
People who joined the group after our last collection, and have
therefore been freeloading even since, will of course have to pay me
more. To figure your due, prorate the $4 above to cover the portion of
the period March-July that you have been here. For example, if you came
in the middle of May, you should give me $6. See, simple.
Okay, that's it. I want the money by next group meeting, on Wednesday,
Thursday, or whenever the fickle winds of fortune decide it will occur.
I accept only cash in increments of one dollar.
Thank you,
Ivan
As a petittion of members of the group, group meeting will be held tomorrow
Thursday at 5pm in the Division Room. This coming week Jake is up.
Cheers,
-A
Hey Group,
Alan will be gone Wednesday to Sunday and will be back on Monday. He leaves
again Wednesday, July 2. If you want to schedule a time to see him, let me
know, and I'll put you in his calendar. I'll send out an email shortly with
(hopefully) Alan's schedule for the whole summer since he will be traveling
a lot.

Dear Group,
Please get your paragraph about your work + images to me by the end of the
day tomorrow so I can post them on the website. If you fail to do so, I will
order gruel and potatoes for our next luncheon! (It's not so bad--just a few
sentences.)

Dear group members,
I will ask each one and every one of you to think and work about the
following: We need to set up a page in the group site where we discuss our
research projects in more detail than what we have right now, but don't give
up any "trade secrets" or too much specifics of the projects that we are
doing if we have not published them or put them in the arxiv. Plots that are
published or in the arxiv are fine.
I would like for you to write those two paragraphs for one or more of your
projects, and send them to Shuting. You should also think hard of what image
or images you will associate with them. We will have a page called Project
Gallery or something like that, so be creative and excited about your work.
Any questions? ask me or Shuting.
The deadline is Tuesday the 24th.
Thank you!
Alan
